i know this is you paraphrasing, but generally i dont know where it said dubstep's core aim was ever to be some sexual magnet for women. garage was sexy, dubstep was darker garage... now wobble is friday night student pissup music, and there's lots of women at universities, many of whom like a drink!

indeed! don't disagree at all. that's why i thought it was odd to suggest that dubstep was once sexy, and has now become unsexy. far more complicated than that!

What ever happened to the Loefah/Burial/Kryptic Minds thing that was mentioned in the interview on Blackdowns blog? Im sure Loefah said it was getting a release in 09.

I just need to come out and ask...

where the hell is Peverlist's 'On and On' track? is this ever coming out? is it his?!

absolutely one of the best tracks I heard in 2009

thanks in advance

for sure it's a lot more complicated, I mean I think Changes by Mala has to be one of the sexiest dubstep tracks, and that was a dubplate form very early on wasn't it?

i cant post anything on dsf for some reason, but someone should ask plastician in that thread if he's not checking for royal t? his stuff would fit in plastician's sets and has way more vibrancy than a lot of what he plays.

a propos of whether dubstep is sexy or not...

monday's FACT mix is Sully. pretty sure i've wished for that one in my mind on at least a few occasions.

who knows...
went to some hipster afterhours thing over the past weekend and during the middle of what was basically a trace/electro set the dj dropped 'hyph mngo' and it suprisingly didn't sound out of place at all.

he then 2 songs later played some awful lady gaga remix : (

I like Skream's new (I assume new anyway) remix of Zinc - Killa Sound. Reminds me of his Marc Ashton remixes a while ago, but with an added cheeky little hint of the wobble noise here and there. It's nice. Certainly better than Minimalistix, which I believe someone on here claimed was like "an Untold tune but better". It's actually a bit shit, though admittedly shit in a more subtle way than the No Future Remix on the other side.

I'm usually quite good at avoiding being pointlessly snide on the internet, but I guess I was really hoping it would be something amazing, I choose to simply ignore all the wobblegrind stuff and if you do that then Skream actually sets a pretty high standard. When does his new Garage-y album come out then?

his killer sound remix is well over a year old. it's sick though. good that it's coming out.

Minimilistix is quality! agree the flip is pretty shit.

Skream- Slumfunk is actually better than minimalistix, although I do like the latter. Marc Ashken remixes are all-time classics though, absolutely inspired...

some picks that should have gotten more love on end of 09 lists:

scuba- golden
xxxy- science fiction
gemmy- wata down sound
elemental- talk
jus wan- qb41
breakage- higher
data & cell- doors of perception/leaves
2562- rework
Mark Pritchard- Wind it Up

3 way tie for most underrated of 09

kowton- statis/country man; Scuba- bleach/volt; Zomby- Digital Flora/Digital Fauna

not feeling this 'naked mario kart' track that much. it does get better when the synths kick in but its almost like those 'sun kissed' ibiza comps gone dubstep lol.

Dub Nation Video Blog Vol 1.1 feat. Dave Gee

Last month Dub Nation hosted Volume 9 of its Dubstep party in Baltimore. Volume 9 featured sets from Batlimore native, DJ Joe Nice (Dubwar NYC) and Dave Gee (Methods NYC). During and after the show I got a chance speak with Dave Gee about Baltimore's burgeoning dubstep scene and more. Video shot, edited and produced by L.Brady.
