who knows...
im as stateside as it gets.

there really aren't many artists here that are doing anything besides dnb dubstep imo.

and if they are the releases are few and far between...

"non dnb dubstep" we've got DJG and Jus Wan..

there's also Vaccine in san diego but strangely hardly anyone I know likes her stuff. I think that will change at some point.

oh it's so ludic. etc. etc.

re me and dusk v joe nice, it's on next time joe's in the country. we've deliberately held back lots of early lost dubs for this very reason.

skream on the other hand is seriously making this disco clash not happen!

Plus Pitchfork Year in Wot Do U Call It 2009 live now.

Great article, but you can't have no Guido on the list... That's some of the best music of the decade, let alone the year!

vaccine

Going to have to second Vaccine here. Love her warm sound, kind of what Distance hinted at with "Delight." Kinda bummed she doesn't play out (or does she?) But yeah, as far as west coast US goes, Dub-U, DJG, Jus Wan, are all doing great stuff, and the Lo Dubs crew impressed me last year. Those Argon guys have their moments too.

But yeah, as far as west coast US goes, Dub-U, DJG, Jus Wan, are all doing great stuff, and the Lo Dubs crew impressed me last year when they came to San Francisco. Those Argon guys have their moments too.

^^^^^ This

When is Punchdrunk going to release more of his amazing tunes?
That Guido mix is one of the best things I heard all year

^ chakra is so fucking gorgeous. martin def should've included it in the "virtual love songs" part of the p4k year roundup.

so i get sent stuff from Jus Wan, and i've heard some stuff from vaccine, DJG and some Argon, and to my ears it didn't stand out just now, praps there's more to come.

the article isn't a list of what came out in 09 but what i'd honestly recommend to people, so things need to seriously stand out.

guido i'd accept, though i suppose i forgot as we were playing those in 08.

have realised one big omission: pev's the bluez. #dickheadting.... will need to make amends.

i gotta say martin, not mentioning Ramadanman/Pearson Sound or the Hessle Camp seems like a big omission..

Hessle and Hemlock (along with hyperdub and keysound ;)) are surely the biggest labels of the year. proper visionary business.

I also think more could be made of Oneman. He's arguably had the biggest year of anyone in and around the dubstep scene. And as DJ his pioneering role in mixing dubstep with other music around the same tempo has perhaps been as influential as any label or producer. The fact he's helped to bring producer's like Numan, SRC and Deadboy very quickly to people's attention this year shows how influential he's become imo.

I tend to process music as being listenable, not-listenable, or exciting. to my ears the american stuff can be enjoyable, but it's not so much ahead of the pack.

actually as I say that I've just remembered Falty DL! he's defo the most singular stateside producer that comes to mind. what d'ya make of him martin?

dubsteppish non-londoners I like:

Taal Mala out of Canada.
DZ I think originally from Canada now in SF (?)
Sub Swara (NY)
Cardopusher
Pacheko
Ghosthack (Germany somewhere I think?)
Starkey (US)
Kush Arora (San Fran)
Clouds (Finland)

and for non-london UK, how about Gizmode from bristol?
Sarantis in Leeds, originally from Greece?

yeah... well fair comment re hessle and oney tho i did mention ben ufo and mr oneman, but a lot got made of it in the post-dubstep/joy orbison column and the 'drop the bpm/up the groove' blogpost i didnt want to go over old ground too much again.

and iirc elijah played SRC first, then we started playing him, then Oney, but it kinda proves your point re oneman's powers if you say he was the one to bring SRC to people's attention ;)

forgot about JusWan & Vaccine, but like i said, releases are few and far between. they're doing more techno (juswan) & idm (vaccine) related things, so I get why mr blackdown isn't into it.

can't say argon have done much that i find that interesting. that blasta lp they put out seemed to have some shinning moments, but i never bothered getting it.

the new Guido is fantastic too.

plus the James Blake 'stop what your doing' remix is promo'd this week!

the moral of the story is... once yr opinion matters enough... you don't really get to have it anymore.
