how come i keep seeing all these dubstep djs looking exactly the same? real skinny, real pale, ratty brown hair, bum fluff mostaches, timid looking types? who is producing these people? where do they come from?
90% of boys in north london look like this too now i come to think of it.

Agreed. Thank god funky came through with all those strong, sexy deejays

it's such a nerdy movement, 'dubsteps' become so sexless.

nerdy is true. i think the fact it's still mostly a vinyl culture keeps it nerdy.

but there are approximately 453% more girls at dubstep raves now than there were in 06. one of he good things about it being student music i suppose.

it is true tho that there don't seem to be many working-class DJs / producers from the post-dubstep or whatever you want to call it crowd..

there was that el-b quote about most dubstep fans looking like they fell out of glastonbury. i remember seeing an old pic of horsepower and being shocked at how they looked like squatters.

appleblim and headhunter look totally diff to how i imagined they would listening to their music (well before they went all techno)

though to be fair, its not like slimzee was the most visually arresting dj ever either.

i suppose its just easier to take the piss out of nerdier looking guys who almost look more indie (no wonder indie kids like dubstep so much) than they do 'urban'.

Agreed. Thank god funky came through with all those strong, sexy deejays

cant tell if this is sarcasm or not.

is that why you moved to australia? you were worried someone would mistake you for a north londoner? bit extreme

If you're going to double send for Bok Bok ("mostache" "dubstep"), dont use an in-di-ar! ;)

I think Pioneer should make their mixes out of granite and bar-bells, so as to disqualify puny little weaklings from the DJ world.

Maybe tunes could be pressed onto gigantic rocks, so that DJs will be forced to lift them on top of the decks in order to play them? This would eliminate thoughtless selection and double drops.

Don't let the critiscism get to you Ben. Your bum fluff moustache is quite becoming.

benUFO is ALL MAN! don't get it twisted. when him and Ramadanman are in the same booth it's sometimes impossible to dance because you're too busy choking on all the testosterone flooding the room.

not having seen any listage here, an' a few days passage, an' now moving on to the subject of wee folk who look like me but DJ also on the other side of the pond... it seems especially silly, but i was kind of interested to hear what ended up sticking for people...

at risk of it being unwelcome, i'll throw up 10 i rated from my (subjective at times) last year
[edit: occasionally doubling up on artist trax just 'cos]
Headhunter/Addison Groove - Sex at the Prom/Footcrab
Pangaea - Memories
Brackles - LHC/Heartbreaker remix
Sully - the Loot remix
Untold - Anaconda/Revenue Remix
2562/A Made Up Sound - Lost/Closer
Silkie - Concrete Jungle/Purple Love
Peverelist - Bluez/Esperanto
Ramadanman - Humber/Justify (w/Appleblim)

Tops
Joe - Rut/everything else

Tim F likes Ill Blu for producer of the year... this is my guy.
not so much getting mentions in this whole future garage business, that i've seen... but nonetheless being pretty much the swingingest. Instantly recognizable sound, remedies the whole not having yr tracks IDed till well after the fact. Hoping more of his tracks will see release next year.

hard to hide being a hessle fan...

sorry i came off as a bit of an arse, i just don't follow the logic.

dubstep's become sexless and nerdy? those early dmzs were great but they weren't exactly caligulan orgies.

musically, you could cite monsoon remix --> hammer time to prove it's become unsexy

or

something like loefah's 'rufage' --> pangaea router, memories, even things like 'love dub', to prove the exact opposite.

i know this is you paraphrasing, but generally i dont know where it said dubstep's core aim was ever to be some sexual magnet for women. garage was sexy, dubstep was darker garage... now wobble is friday night student pissup music, and there's lots of women at universities, many of whom like a drink!
