Divas 'n Bass

The tracks I know of which illustrate the sound I'm going for here are 2 Bad Mice - Hold it Down, A Guy Called Gerald - This Is The Right Time, and D'Cruze - Life (Feat. Rachel Wallace)... as well as other Rachel tracks on subbase. Just wondering if anyone could point me to similar tracks? Female vocals, in 'songs' not just as samples, in a jungle/hardcore context? It's such a great configuration of sounds, I really hope it wasn't just a novelty kind of thing.

i'm a huge fan of girl and bass,
and would often spin sets consisting
of little else, back when i was
still doing the dj thing...

a bit techier and more melancholic
than what's been mentioned thusfar,
tho for what it's worth,

my ten favoritest
spooky diva tunes
would be:

t-power feat. elizabeth troy- greater love
dillinja-you don't know
fortran-the end pt. 2
skunk anansie-secretly (optical mix)
dilemma-springbox (matrix remix)
cyba space-what way to turn (dom and roland remix)
klute-phone call (matrix remix)
esthero-breath from another (dj krust remix)
james hardaway feat. amanda ghost - grow (magnetic's trust mix)
everything but the girl-walking wounded (springheel jack remix)

cyba space-what way to turn (dom and roland remix)

Good tune - this is off an album by 'Cyba Space featuring Shanie' that has a bunch of (more mediocre) vocal dnb tracks. Should be cheap second hand.

Another recommendation:
Mono - Life In Mono

There are various remixes of Bjork about - I've got a good one by DJ Krust. Her angular tones go well with breakbeats.

Foul Play - Finest Illusion (tho' doesn't use an original vocal performance)

are you sure about 2 bad mice hold it down? don't remember any vox on that, but will check tonight when i get back.

the one that really springs to mind is genaside II narra mine which not only features a sweet female vocal singing lyrics that are actually meaningful, but also the ruffest ragga chat over beats and bass - widely heralded at the first true jungle tune btw - although everyones got an opinion on that.

yep it's the emotions 'i don't want to loose yr love' slightly chppmunked.
its great.

ah yes, i remember, also got a jungle brothers sample on it ("round and round and round, feel the beat steady steady pounding"). in fact the whole EP is a stone cold classic - especially waremouse which is a minimal subbase monster.

i like hold it down personally, i think it's their best one, love it, love it.

I like some of Reprazent's vocal stuff eg Heroes, Watching Windows. If your coffee-table-ometer isn't too sensitive there's Breakbeat Era too.

the LP version of Maintain by Krust (feat. Morgan) is a top vocal tune, the backing is so completely abstract for most of the tune. Off the V Classics LP from 97.

Street Fighting Man
let's not forget E-Z Rollers, and the wonderful "Rolled Into One"...(forget the chick's name, though)...

Alison Goldfrapp did a nice diva n' bass turn on Spacer's "Contrazoom"...

on a more d&b lite tip:

alex reece (featuring Deborah Anderson) - feel the sunshine (Bjork-esque, nice & poppy)
alex reece (featuring Carmen?) - candles (weaker)

Street Fighting Man
there was also this chick on Heavenly (the label) called Espiritu, who released a tepid d n' b LP about ten or so years ago...(had a good track with A Guy Called Gerald on it, though)...

Vocal Tune by Peshay. It's built off a sample, but a long sample, so it seems more like a song. He also did a track with Kym Mazelle called Truly, which is well diva, on the Miles From Home Album. Not really the type of sound you're looking for, tho, more MAW does drumnbass.

Speaking of which! There is none more diva than Roni Size's remix of It's Alright (I Feel It) by Nuyorican Soul...
