i was listening to new pj harvey and devendra banhart a lot lately..specially devendra..but also some other stuff, and i put some of these songs together in a zip file if you're interested; http://www.sendspace.com/file/4km6wm

i'd be much interested in what you've listened to lately, and if you can put up some of the songs that'd be swell!!

magik markers -- boss (very different from their past noise releases, which i never cared for. this one is more song-oriented, low key, produced by lee renaldo...and she actually has a decent voice.)
black dice -- load blown
deepchord presents echospace -- the coldest season
deepchord -- vantage isle
swod -- sekunden (nice quiet, piano-oriented stuff)
pink skull -- blast yr akk (lo-fi indie electronic but done well)
fiery furnaces -- widow city (just got it today, as usual kind of tough to get into at first but i'm sure it will grow on me)

Buck 65 - Square

Used to be well into the indie/backpack/emo/nerd rap stuff, pretty much grown past it at this point. I got a soft spot for buck though ;)

Bass Clef - Zamyatin Tapes (especially "23 tunnel chords" huge track)

Rustie - Jagz the Smack EP

Ananda Shankar - Sitar Meets Moog

Alice Coltrane - Going Home (first heard this song when Woebot played it on resonance back in...july?...really stuck with me nothing else on Lord of Lords is quite this beautiful)

o and those Burial clips on Boomkat...on repeat....

I go through phases every four years or so of listening to 70s Bowie records intensively and I'm in one at the moment. Especially Station To Station and Hunky Dory.

Station To Station is one of the best records ever, his 70s rhythm section were mindblowing.

Sick Boy

All about pride and egos
Pop music, electro house, and dancehall.

I actually really like that Mark Ronson and Lily Allen cover of the Kaiser Chiefs.

Me too...I rediscover him periodically and am amazed that after so many plays it all still sounds so fresh. S to S was the first Bowie record I ever bought - just perfect.

Talking of rhythm, I have (predictably enough) been listening to a lot of Joy Division again recently. The bass and drums are so much more muscular and foregrounded than with most rock bands. And so oddly danceable.

sometimes
oren ambarchi's super new album and liquid swords by gza,, plus listening to O that mika vanio cd whilst reading Algernon Blackwood, who i got a book of from oxfam and am absolutely bowled over by.

i wish this thread was 'NEW music youve been enjoying lately', both to counter all the 'new music sucks' postage thats been popular lately (and more importantly, just to steal recommendations)

anyway, stuff i have been enjoying -
grime radio sets from newham gens, old ones from skepta etc
mars volta albums, which i bought ages ago but never really pursued with - despite the production being a bit compressed or 'bright' for my liking, i really like them now
public image ltds first two albums (jah wobble is the best bassist ever)
dag nasty - wig out at denkos (am considering getting their first album but not sure if i will like it as much)
old doug and jean carne stuff
thelonious monk comps
harder they come soundtrack
this jazz version of the rites of spring played by ron carter, herbie hancock and co on CTI
supercats don dada album and shabba ranks' raw as ever album (i have a real fondness for that era in dancehall)
