you've got to have the picture disc of that with george dressed as a cowboy, riding two dolphins, a foot on each with a ghettoblaster on one shoulder holding the reigns with the other hand - so funny.
also funkentelechy, the lp with the poster and comic book by the guy who did the freak bros cartoons, nice stuff.

the cartoons are by Overton Lloyd, the Freak Bros are by Gilbert Shelton... i dig O. Lloyd, but Pedro Bell is really the king:
i also really dig that the first few records have liner notes courtesey of the Process Church of Final Judgement, a cult reputed to have Manson affiliations that believed in worshipping Satan and God equally... apparently their churches had like a cross on one side and a goat's head on the other... crazy...
I actually do second the idea of buying "Music for Your Mother" as a starter for funkadelic... IIRC, it even has non LP b-sides like "fish, chips, and sweat" (the jam!), and "a whole lotta BS"... i would also say the Parliament greatest hits comp "the bomb" is a good solid overview of their commercial peak...
for Funkadelic completists, there is a great comp called "Vital Juices" that has a lotta old George Clinton stuff on it, like an early fast nothern soul version of "i'll bet you" and their single as "Rose Williams, George Clinton, and the Funkedelics" and the best Ruth Copeland track (a white british singer songwriter who moved to Detroit and recorded two LP's w/ P-Funk as her backing band in the early 70's... also co-wrote a few songs on Osmium)

even though its bitty, up for the down stroke is worth getting just for the majesty of all your goodies are gone. they recorded it in a motownish way when they were the parliaments but the up for the down stroke version is the one to beat. one of georges best lyrics too.

actually the process successfully sued when a book affiliated them with said they had manson affiliations, they're an offshoot of the scientologists.
it's only maggot brain that has the process stuff on as well imo.

my favs are the more heavy songs like Good Ol' Funky Music and I Wanna Testify...
there are a couple cheapy vinyl comps floating around of that stuff...

'Clones Of Dr Funkenstein'...if only for the 'Prelude' and 'Gamin On Ya'. Their 70s albums are the best. Saw them 'live' back then...George arriving in a silver padded 'limo'...
Saw Bootsy at The Barbican a few years back and was stunned to discover that he still delivered 'the big pill'...along with Bernie on keyboards...stunning.
