live music and performance-enhancing drugs

i know so many musicians who play either stoned out or their minds or very high on cocaine

why does this not raise the kinds of ethical issues we encounter with sports?

Because there is no objective way to value music or say that it accomplished what it set out to do as a direct result of good performance which is also a subjective and definitionally controversial term?

And in sports there is: you win.

this was my idea of a joke

albeit not very funny

still, i do find the concept somewhat amusing, can't quite place my finger on it though

its puts you on a level with most of your audience who are, as a rule, wrecked. any time i've done live techno sets i've usually had an e or some mdma just before i start as ive found the coming up process helps judge how to build a set and what will get the crowd up. if you're tweaking a breakdown that has you rushing, its a fair bet the crowd isnt far behind you. coke works in the opposite way in that you cant care less about the audience's reaction ie. walking out. good for noise/drone/pretension based activity

yeah, bustarhymes and 50 cent i could see -- but mary j blige!?!?!?!

Prednisone is a steroid often used to repair strained vocal cords... I supposed it was something like that... Although they were getting these packages from an "anti-aging" clinic, so it could be anything. She had a package delivered to "Marlo Stanfield"

I liked the statement denying she was taking "performance-enhancing drugs". Funny how these phrases enter the lexicon and wind up being used completely inappropriately. Outside of Milli Vanilli-style fakery, htf do you cheat in music?

there are no accidents
while i love the feeling of playing a set high as a kite, i find that if anything it makes me forget cool shit i planned to do and make mistakes far more than enhance anything... :(
