I've been dabbling in a little urban exploration of late. Sheffield, my new-ish home, certainly has a lot to offer in terms of knackered industrial buildings, as well as a huge brutalist housing estate that's currently completey empty.

Anyway, here's your starter for ten:

tempelhof.jpg

Berlin's Tempelhof airport - huge 30s monument to the glamourous age of air travel, called 'the mother of all airports' by Lord Rogers. And shortly to be knocked down.

Wouldn't mind visiting this either actually. Lord knows the Nazis don't have much in thier credit column, but they did build some impressive buildings.

I wandered around that on a suitably grey day a few years ago - very cool.

this was a fun one for me, back in 1999, 2000... dunno if it is still there... northampton state metal hosptil in northmapton ,MA...

Yea NSMH is now in the process of being turned into a housing complex, most buildings have been demolished...New Englands various mental hospitals are far and away the scariest places I have ever been, especially Norwich State Hospital in Connecticut where it is rumored that insane homeless people still roam the upper halls and its labyrinthine tunnels.

They're currently trying to turn this into a sparkling new theme park and movie production studio!

That's some bad karma right there.
