honestly, its just been random access memories. i was really sceptical as i didnt like get lucky that much but on the album, it really works - pharrell still bugs me (i wonder what DP would sound like working with someone like bilal, even though he doesnt have pharrells star power), but the album i think is just immense on a purely sonic level, i cant remember the last 'album experience' i had like this, or one that just sounded as full as this. could also just be my own nostalgia to need a big pop moment to be part of and that a lot of what i like on the album does evoke certain childhood memories, but the sincerity behind the whole thing has won me over (i was listening to the new timberlake album this week also and the quickly-tossed-off inanity of 90% of it lyrically, and just his tiring need for 'cool' make RAM seem that much more alien). that and nile rodgers.

still not sure about where that moroder track ends up going though.

and i am curious to see what their new, more electronic tracks are like, based on the descriptions ive read about their work with kanye.

should i bother buying the new mount kimbie album? it's the type of thing i feel i should own and like, but when i think about it i hardly ever played their first album. i'm trying to focus my purchases to things i'll actually listen to versus things i feel i "should" own.

Darned cockwombles.
Owning stuff is overrated generally, or rather it is if you're not using it most of the time.

Listen to this, it's better than Mount Kimbie:

I was disappointed by the first album but I heard a track of theirs on Tom Ravenscroft's show on 6Music last night and it was nice summer evening listening

I own it, really like it, and want to listen to it quite a lot. Though my listening patterns have been set for a couple of years now - get something new, love it, rinse it, never listen to it again.

yeah, i don't mind listening to something a lot when i first get it and then putting it aside. that's kind of natural, i think. it's more the "big" releases that i for some reason feel obligated to own and then never listen to. i think i played the second kode9 and last shackleton albums about three times each, for example. and i really like both artists.

on the other hand, i have had cases of not really listening to something when it first comes out but then getting into it six months or a year later (like the jam city LP).
