best programme to convert old tapes to mp3?

and do i need anything else other than a mic socket? i wanted to up some old grime sets when i have a chance and some other bits too.

You need a line in socket on your soundcard, and (obv) a Y cable. If you dont have any software, try audacity - and dont forget to download the LAME mp3 plugin so you can export to MP3.
