Turn Me Up! (a soloution to the inevitable loudness war?)

"Turn Me Up!™ is a non-profit music industry organization campaigning to give artists back the choice to release more dynamic records. To be clear, it's not our goal to discourage loud records; they are, of course, a valid choice for many artists. We simply want to make the choice for a more dynamic record an option for artists. "

In short im in full agreement. I cant speak for vinyl but some cd pressings are so compressed that any prolonged listening on headphones in tiring on the ears. The richness is lost once the volume goes over a certain level. Is music pressed to sound good through PC speakers and low quality headphones ?

In this thread there's pleasing writing about how one of the djs don't play tunes if they are too loud. It's so delightful to read that, when the general practice with djs is the opposite way, not playing tunes which are too quiet...
