Associating colours and sounds

Famous synthaesthetes anyone? .

Lots of the druggy writers, most famously Arthur Rimbaud and his 'derangement of the senses', as an example this poem

Purple is an infinitely preferable adjective to wonky.

Yeah I think that does fit better. Maybe just because I like Joker and purple is also my favorite color.

Edit: Is it just me or is wonky a lot more interesting than dubstep? Or is that unfair? I just like it more.

Sounds definitely have visual forms to me, colours too but not that i could break it down into certain timbres, instruments, frequencies etc more like some morphing animated textural machine thing moving through space. i lot of 'wonky' stuff is good for this, really nice textures.. bubbly, fractured, wet and super-colourful. it's like as the beat fragments the other parts also find new ways to move and animate. Flying Lotus essential mix is a really good example of this, it's like moving through a 3d audio ocean. when i'm high anyway! haha.

Loved one of the paragraphs from kode9's interview in the Wire where he talked about ceratin things on the label sounding like weird radioactive alien organisms growing after the apocalypse. even if it's inconsequential babble that doesn't have any relation to the music it's nice to hear people conceptualise what they enjoy about it so vividly.

haha, i remember getting at you for saying this in that 'wonky' thread

as far as I can tell, "wonky" as an adjective describes music that has synth sounds that go "whaaaaw whaa whaaa whaaaw whaa" like the sounds you hear when you do a whippet

always a scene out there ripe for the hype machine
"innit"
chewed up and spit out within months

good to see it converted you. I wouldn't make as broad a statement as that to say wonky is more interesting, don't think this wonky thing has been defined properly, and there's much overlap into and influence from dubstep.

Right now, I'd say so - and I've voiced this before - but for me it is because, while "wonky" having been happily (and understandably) co-opted as a facet of the modern dubstep sound, it can't wholly be identified as simply being an organ of that pinwheeling Ouroboros.

Hip hop saves dubstep when both are having trouble saving themselves. I understand this is contentious.
