Hmm, close (I think) but not quite - do you mean the one with the captain who spends all his time in this massive bath? I think the crew of that ship are aware of the technology around them, I mean they haven't degenerated into any kind of primitive state or whatever, but they've forgotten (or can't be arsed) to use it. Something like that, anyway.

Yeah, that's the one I'm on about. Not quite the same but similar I think.

Brian Aldiss' "Non-Stop" (also published as "Starship" meaning I bought the bloody thing twice by accident) is along those lines. I won't describe the plot beyond the obvious premise to avoid giving anything away, but the great twist isn't exactly a huge surprise.

Enjoyed it, although it is a little pulpier than his later work (not always a bad thing!)
