Christian rave's not new at all. But I think that's Justice anyway. They're just French.

Euhh, bien sur!

Edit: heh, I think I remember that Morse episode. Or one involving a 'rave', anyway.

The ultimate, ultimate, ultimate 'night-club'-scene-directed-by-someone-who's-clearly-never-been-to-a-night-club is at the start of Bad Boys II. Seriously, watch that shit, it had me wetting myself.

I am a working man and I need my bangers at the weekend. I love guys like Justice and Boys Noize because they sound great when I am out of my mind I wanna go crazy.

that's cool, we all have to (singing) make this life liveable and if justice is "what you have time for", it's all good. there's a place for everything.

and you hit the nail on the head: what you describe is not about inspiring any tangents out of the work-consume-die cycle, this is very much a part of the usual dynamic.

what i'm after though, are "special" experiences, having recognizeable elements from, yet a bit outside of the norm, and even more rewarding.

I think all the spiritual guff and mysticism that surrounds dance music is the worst thing that ever happened to it. All this from a bunch of black teenagers who liked "Rock Lobster" and reading GQ.

How do you know whats going on in your head is anymore "special" than what's going on in mine on a night out? And if you seriously think that playing out some records is "inspiring any tangents out of the work-consume-die cycle" then you're naive beyond belief.

All your threads seem to revolve around how much of a rebel or how special you are. The one about wanting to do a suicide bombing was quite funny though, I suppose.

so to you dance music is disposable entertainment, and should not aspire to be like Art, which attempts to satisfy on multiple levels as listed by massrock?

i choose to think that music, even electronic dance music, can transcend quotidian humdrum, and change the way we look at ourselves and the world.

Sometimes, the harder you try to make something pop cult into "art" the less interesting it is. Like great music happens despite itself.

i can understand how someone stuck in an 8 to 5 can be spiteful towards those who have the time to take music more seriously.

I know and like a lot of people who aren't part of that cycle. Some of my best mates are total benefit fraudsters. But it doesn't make you "special" or give you any extra insight into music or art.

Ultimately how much is the experience about the music?

Music provides rallying points and reminders, excuses to surrender.

You can do great music and really care about it but in the end you have to recognise that as well.

and i don't know where the fuck you getting any kind of anti-dancing stance out of this thread: are you stupid in the face?

er, yeah, it appears i might be. :eek:i misread the OP to mean you prefer music that makes you think about dancing without actually doing it. sorry about that.

oh i see. you have no qualms with trust fund hipsters who do nothing.

but you do have a problem when someone who has reached, through hard work, a place which allows them to take "art" more seriously, aspires to make and become something out of the ordinary.

fair enough.

I'm all for sublime 'credible' dance music - I love dancing to it and I love thinking about it - but my favourite music to actually dance to, the one which energises me and excites me more than any other is mindless washing machine loop techno. It makes me dance at a very basic level and it makes me want to dance whenever I hear it outside a club context.

Is this some sort of personal failing? Am I attuned to bad music? Is it because I work a 9-5 job and only a monotonous 4x4 beat can provide the physical release I need because I am a consumerist zombie shill?

sorry to be facetious but I'm feeling judged by this thread.

I suspect for the most part "trust fund hipsters" are strawmen anyway, and that the people moaning about them are indulging in narcissism of small differences.

There are worse people out there. If my parents won the lottery tomorrow and handed me a bundle of cash, I wouldn't say no.

Course I don't have a problem with artists. But art hasn't been about all that spiritual guff for ages anyway. Nobody should think they are "out of the ordinary".

you might be arguing with each other but this is kind of like something zhao would say

is the pressure of coming up with amazing thread tags the reason eden stopped being a moderator? *edit oh wow anyone can do it!
