    Blackest Ever Black

My take on Vatican Shadow, which I'm enjoying massively at the moment, is that while there are musical similarities to Muslim Gauze, the intent is very different. I see VS as soundtrack music to a present day conspiracy thriller. The subject, such as there is one, is Western paranoia around Al...

The Simon Reynolds insulted me thread

Is its origin English? People like Morgan Geist use it. Edit - This link seems to think so: http://www.electrofunkroots.co.uk/articles/the_building_blocks_of_boogie.html Confirms my memories of people using the term in the 80's.

The Simon Reynolds insulted me thread

Is he right in saying that 'boogie' wasn't a term in use at the time? I may be wrong, but I think that Mike Allen used to refer to the weekly chart on his Capital show in the eighties as 'hip-hop, electro and boogie'.

That is a shame, but thanks for the update, I can stop waiting I guess.

    Kode 9 DJ Kicks

Anyone know what became of the Burial DJ Kicks? Will this drag up the whole 'Burial is really someone else in disguise (eg Kode 9)' thing again.

Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein

There always seems to be this thing that El-P isn't hip-hop because his stuff has electronic elements in it. It's like electro never happened. Also a lot more of his stuff is based on samples than it appears, if that makes any difference to its hip-hopness. I always thought 'Iron Galaxy' sounded...

    burial dj kicks mix

Wasn't someone on here suggesting that Burial was actually some other artist in disguise and that the interviews with him were fake? Is that not so and he is just some ordinary bloke?

What's Left? - How the left lost its way.

I think Nick Cohen's recent ranting is as much about him as anything else. As one of the 'pro war left' he's now on a crusade to present anyone who opposed the war as outright apologists for islamic fundamentalism. He seems to be having a bit of a mid-life crisis, mixed in with the inevitable...

What's Left? - How the left lost its way.

How about a regime that kills people in the electric chair?

What's Left? - How the left lost its way.

"The anti-rockism of the new left?" I get the impression Nick Cohen is more like some ageing raveista still nursing grudges about an argument he had about the correct definition of 'balearic' back in '89.

    Burial "Untrue"

Might it reveal his identity? Would you have to kill us if you told us?

What's Left? - How the left lost its way.

Depends on whether you think Nick Cohen is 'reflecting' what's really there or engaging in the construction of a very large straw man.

Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein

I'll try and give those a listen, although I can't really get into Aesop Rock as an mc, try as I might. What's the Lif ep called?

Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein

I really like pretty much every track he's produced prior to that. But I can't find even one track on the new album that's vaguely memorable or interesting.

Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein

Yeah, this well and truly stands the test of time. The beats are so great that it does really work as an instrumental album. I really like El-P as a producer - the Co-Flow instrumental album, 'Little Johnny From The Hospital', is amazing. I like Fantastic Damage as well, and his productions for...
