Consent on channel 4 is pretty good. A lot of stuff on sexual abuse around right now, prob not all good, but this is one of the best ones. Only thing id say though is that while the class/privilege/power/wealth element def gives it another layer, it might have been more surprising if that wasnt...

never a favourite, but flowdan sounds kind of weird on that new song hes done with skrillex. teetering on that line (a familiar one for him actually) between straight and parody.
Tar. Cate blanchett is good but not enough as its pretty standard Oscar bait. Its a character study that flirts with some bigger issues, ie cancel culture, but in a typical detached, ambiguous, withholding arthouse way. The novelty here is that its a female character abusing her power but it...

only seen three of his top ten.
Jordan peele has gotten better as a director but each film as an actual narrative based thing has gotten worse since get out. I think he had one genuinely clever idea (get out) but none since. Us was a dense mess that didnt know what it was trying to say. This one had lots of cool ideas...
after sun. good for the girl in it - she should def be nominated for an award. paul mescal doesnt really do that much except emanate a certain broodiness, which he does well. but the script doesnt really illuminate very much.
the song with the weeknd is good cos shes using a diff part of her range (at least to what ive heard of hers) and she sounds 'committed' to it. you totally buy it.
ariana is a better singer, but often doesnt sound emotionally connected to what shes singing. though maybe thats intentional and to fit the zeitgeist, idk.
Full credit to him. He cultivated this affected Brett Easton Ellis (or Patrick bateman kind of hedonist) of indie rnb type of persona and hes gotten maximum Mileage out of it. Hes going to be starring as a creepy svengali groomer type in a new drama series this year.
