Ben UFO - Ruffage Sessions archive 09.04.09

getting acquainted with all kinds of other ages and geographies of house music has been a really pleasant and unexpected byproduct of following funky. i'm really glad you and a few others are doing a lot of this historical work. i feel kind of funny putting it that way, but not sure how else to...

    Funky/London/UK House

diggin' the cooly g mix this evening. surprisingly techy at points, in a good way. are they really carding and turning away 24 year olds at these nights? that sounds crazy to me.

    Contemporary South African music

all signs point to this having been around for a while. an' i tracked it down via a post on dutty artz... but holy shit. have you heard this song?!

    Dubstep

the recent Shackleton remix of Neo by Maxximus is pretty ace, no? a bit of a roller almost. seems similar but different as far as the drums go. simply playing with a slightly different pitched drum or two freshens things up for me, as far as following his production goes. anything else...

    Dubstep

his concerns there seemed to have to do more with not being able to reason with a young feller with a piece as opposed to the darkness (or otherwise) of any given music.

Ben UFO covering Bruk Radio 17.03.09

cover to cover ace. that toasty tune on the backend is somethin' else. (among a great many) thanks once again. i'm gonna have to try and start tuning in live from Vancouver, because relying on the archives of these shows is proving a bit spacey for me. (about) 2 weeks was too long!

    Great 2 Step?

aye, the devotional dubz mix is a beautiful thing. only checked it out in the last few weeks. i like how psychedelic it is... connecting the dots between my southern screwed rap and uk break loves...

Ruffage Sessions in the House - Ben UFO b2b Elgato 19.02.08 archive

been following ruffage et. al. for a little while now, and i think this one is very close to my favourite so far. asking for a tracklist would be a bit much, so how about just an id for that gorgeous tune off the start? those ambient synths are way pretty.

    Funky/London/UK House

anywhere else to track down recent Perempay sets? his representation on the rinse blog seems pretty spotty lately. he an' Dee still have my heart on the strength of their Be Your Girl mix (although this was always partly on the strength of the very well written/sung original song). just this...

    Dubstep

http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=76337 some good stuff on this chef v. LD rinse set from the other day. the opening track from Von D "so many faces" is way nice... kind of curious if anyone knows anything about this G-Double fellow... are people aware/is it acknowledged that Highest is...

    Cumbia

since it hasn't been mentioned yet: Chancha via Circuito's release Rodante, on ZZK, is well worth a listen. i think i prefer it to the comp. those who've heard the Jahdan Blakkamoore ep will be familiar with one of the tracks already. my e-pal, who's big into this stuff suggested i check out El...

    zomby - where were u in 92?

i think the homage has to be at least part red-herring--or not the full picture of what's going on here... as i was listening to some of this DJ Elmoe stuff on Imeem, it occurred to me that there are some juke-ish elements in Pillz, for example. above and beyond just a general similarity in...
