    The oo-er missus thread

I just remembered another good one. This was at a free party where there was a crusty mongrel dog with a missing leg running around annoying people. My friend got asked by a girl he didn't know, "Why don't you shoot that three-legged dog?" - he replied, without missing a beat, "Is that a...

    The oo-er missus thread

I was once doing a very boring filing job with this girl I worked with, which involved going through a pile of random invoices and putting them in alphabetical order. She announced one day that 'I've done all the E's I can find', to which I replied, 'I thought you were looking agitated'. She got...

    music you've been enjoying lately

I go through phases every four years or so of listening to 70s Bowie records intensively and I'm in one at the moment. Especially Station To Station and Hunky Dory. Station To Station is one of the best records ever, his 70s rhythm section were mindblowing.

    Work Appraisal

Eden is on point here with some useful advice. Commit to as little as possible and try to avoid specifics. This is an occasion where talking in management speak really comes into it's own, as you can bang on sounding fully engaged with the exercise without actually committing to anything...

Tony Freil, ex-of the Fall, confirms by email that he is not the same Tony Freil who played Wizbit.

    Boozeless cold remedies

Just want to say i got shot of one of those severe feverous 'am i on acid?' colds yesterday using Zhao's brightly coloured veg + garlic method. I don't have juicer so I did a huge salad covered in lemon, and couscous with chilli & about 1/2 bulb of garlic in. I felt better within about 30 mins...

    Extrmemly trivial Fall trivia

I have a burning need to know (don't ask why) if the Tony Freil who was a founder member of The Fall is the same Tony Freil who played the lead role in Wizbit, the 80s kids TV series about a hat shaped wizard. Does anyone know?

    Magical/ethereal singers

Laura Nyro is the most witchlike of female singers, even more so than Nico. No-one sits on the fence with Laura Nyro, they either absolutely love her or it's like fingernails down a blackboard. Even in the 60s she was a bit too much for a lot of people. Maybe start with New York Tenderberry if...

The future for dubstep and grime

I think grime is a victim of major labels forgetting how to A&R properly. A&R is about developing the uniqueness of the artist in such a way as to connect with the mainstream, and then developing thier relationship with the new audience over a career. But A&R nowadays has been infected by a...

    Skweee

F$%£ I sold that spacepimp record on Clear earlier this year, I never knew it was Acen! It is kind of similar to skwee though I agree. The skwee I've heard off this thread so far reminds me of this.

    Villalobos Fabric 36- Thoughts?

I've never been to a minimal rave but I'd be very suprised if the hedonism was anywhere near as extreme as at the hardcore clubs I went to as a yout', or the free parties I go to now. Hedonism generates cultural energy, and I guess it's political value lies in what then happens to that energy...

    Villalobos Fabric 36- Thoughts?

Hedonism is a funny one, because it can be revolutionary or conformist depending on who's doing it, where, and how. I would say that generally the more preoccupied a cultural movement is with 'beauty', the less revolutionary it is in spirit.

'Rot of the stars' - most Lovecraftian natural phenomenon EVER?

...apart from squid. But why has it got a welsh name? I've never come across any other scientific entity named in the language of the valleys, why star rot? Is there some unknown mystic welsh astrologer?

Ha, yeah, SUF should launch a minimal sublabel called Don't Forget To Go Home. Closely followed by thier downtempo imprint, Is Anyone Really Up For This Or Shall We Just Stay In And Get A Curry?

    Villalobos Fabric 36- Thoughts?

Well, I've always thought about techno in terms of structure, since a drug induced vision at Lost in 1996 where I saw the music appearing as 3-D objects on the dancefloor (but I still had to look Adolph Loos up on Wikipedia :D). Seriously, techno to me has always been about partying with the...
