You're one of those LSE lot aren't you. Doesn't bother me anyways, it's allegedly one of the top 5 schools in the country for Physics.
I dropped out after 2 years because I found the repetition of degree level Maths to be dull and the Physics wasn't much better. Solving dozens 3 dimensional...
Listening to a record allows you to critique a record. Listening to a bunch of records allows you to critique the creative output of a scene.
Listening to records does not give you an insight into how that music is presented in a live format. it doesn't give you an insight into the culture...
If you get to 16 and you are having to go to a college that is charging money for courses and books and equipment you're fucked already. No sixth form college that teaches a normal curriculum and doesn't involve 500 kids all doing music tech or beauty therapy charges money to go to it.
I don't...
I grew up in a council estate for 6 years of my life. Then I moved to Africa for 3 years,
Then I moved to Essex.
And all of these opportunities in society are open to these kids. They are simply not made attractive to them. The number of people who drop out of school who do so due to poverty...
This is the main reason Grime is not big in the UK. Lack of live events for the people to attend. It is the same problem with record labels as with promoters... pre-packaged foreign music offers a guaranteed return for little to no effort as opposed to the hard work and far greater risk that...
In the succint abbreviated replies typical of a web forum, lack of effort to extrapolate on points could be conceivably interpreted arrogance.
I am not an arrogant person at all and simply wish for the music which I love and work hard to promote to be understood by those who make passing...
You weren't querying my assertions. You were using a pedantic, sartorial tone which was mocking and showed no respect.
I expect that from some of the semi-literate members of RWD, not here.
I do not believe that listening to a "Garage" show gives an accurate insight into the Grime scene. I do...
Rossi B & Luca and DJ Cameo advertise themselves as "Garage" DJs. They still play 2 step and 4/4 beats. They play across the spectrum of Garage and Garage influenced beats which fit into their sets. There are several people who do 100% Grime sets on Rinse such as Roll Deep, OT crew, Mak 10...
If you think that sidewinder or eskimo dance or rinse sets sound like hip hop, i would love to experience this new form of hip hop you think it sounds like which has never been reported before.
This is the problem with internet exposure to this music. When you download any old tunes off the net...
LOL!
Always good to hear someone who is held so highly in the scene showing such faith in it....
I attended Kings College London doing a joint honours Maths and Physics degree for 2 years and left to persue a stupid idea that I could make something of myself in music like EZ did.
The beauty of Grime is that as a name it merely describes the environment it is created and performed in.
It has no real preconceptions about what it should sound like other than it is a bunch of young kids rapping on beats that dont sound like traditional hip hop.
And Dizzee's and Wileys...
The thing about britian is unlike the States the government lays on a plate an unbelievable amount of opportunities for young people in this country.
Most of these kids have access to decent amounts of money, they can stay in school and not have to work.
Grime has a unique sound and culture behind it.
But I really am not bothered by other countries getting it yet. Any international interest helps us bring in revenue and establish an infrastructure and build up from the grass roots.
Grime isn't a "big" music in the UK yet, it don't expect it to...
It's getting about 3 reloads every time it gets played in clubs though, so it seems to be doing the trick. He definitely didn't make it for people uotside the scene, it's been made for those who are part of it, and it seems to be appealling to them. Hopefully the support it is getting in the...
