Is the internet really good enough?

and Agree. There is no right way of writing (whatever works for you is right) and there is nothing wrong with writing long pieces for online consumption. If you go with the "I am a superb writer of wit and intellect; and only want readers who can be bothered to read my 1000 word masterpiece...

Is the internet really good enough?

seconded (it's one of my "4 stars or more" in my free, legal download cat MP3s). Some of Biosphere's newer stuff (freely available from http://www.biosphere.no) and also some Finns fall in that category (I can't find their name right now - but when I heard them I had to check that they were...

Is the internet really good enough?

Just one little tangent. On the actual act of writing. It's often not about the quality of the writing - being a good weblogger is also a matter of "web style". Short paragraphs, good headlines, the "conclusion" up front and so on. Reading from screen is different from reading a newspaper...

    funkiness

DEFUNKT (which is early 80s and very funky). I had no idea Joe Bowie (and Kim Clarke on bass) was still going (so thanks for mentioning the word) - but here they are http://www.defunktmusic.com/defunkt.htm Funk like this is possibly the next 80s treasurechest to be dug into (not heard anything...

    the futureheads

What is disappointing with a lot of these bands (and Tom Vek) is that they all SOUND the same. It's like the post-postpunk meatgrinder has just one hole ... (having said that: I don't have much against Bloc Party, but if I hear another band with "angular guitars" it's time to turn the power...

    "Pure" pop that does chart

since I am idling through. For more Norwegian pop sweetness listen to Bertine Zetlitz' "Fake Your Beauty" (features the line "Baby baby, bubble gum" - a nod to Annie?) http://www.bertine.com/ use the top right link "New Album" - I think it has charted in Austria or somewhere though.

What PostPunk has RIU&SA make you drolly over?

and Is there an element of self-contradiction here? Exactly. Listen and decide - that is the golden rule. Reading helps, some people you can "trust" - but not 100% (ie Gutterbreakz raving about one of the worst bands ever (Landscape)). The problem is (and this is where I find the...

Beauborg and Spiral - good stuff.

    atom.xml feed to html

anything XML can be converted to HTML using XSL. If you are of the technical type you should be able to do so - it takes a few hours of reading and tinkering though. http://www.webdevelopersjournal.com/articles/xml_to_html.html http://www.w3schools.com/xml/default.asp...

which country is responsible for the worst music?

no expert on this - but I liked Sandii&the Sunsetz and this Bonnie Pink tune is sort of in the same tradition. It's synthetic and sweet and innocent, but I prefer this to any "indie" band with jangly guitars and sounding a bit like the Cure/Coldplay ;-)

which country is responsible for the worst music?

Switzerland - Yello Belgium - Telex, Mathilde Santing, Le Disques De Crepuscule France - electronics like Air, Bernard Szajner and JM Jarre, ehh Plastic Bertrand (? - OK then) Eastern Europe - got one record by an Estonian lady called Ingrid Karklins, which is OK in a Tori Amos, folkish sort of...

which country is responsible for the worst music?

Scotland is forgiven for ever - for this is the land that gave us The Associates. Anything good ever coming from Austria?

    sounds you wanna heard

Black Metal House? ehh - Black Metal House? I watched Satyricon recently and since they have a keyboard player and play at a ridiculous speed I think it could be possible to add some sort of 120-160 BPM synth/danceable/house flavour to Black Metal. Think Black T-shirts with upside down...

    Paxman

Anyone else enjoying Paxman's roasting of the mighty ones? No wonder politicians avoid him unless there's an election. Paxo's facial expressions are priceless and asking Tone if he would discuss condoms with the "ex-Jugend(did not inhale)"-Pope was classic. For someone not from these shores...

    Top 100 C4/cheap "Paranoid" cover

Viewed this wretched thing (well taped it and used FWD for what it is there for), not because there would be any great surprises, but because there is always a tiny bit of enjoyable trivia (disregarding the politeness of it all). I always assumed that the cover of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid"...

    Paris 1969

just saw the documentary on Astor Piazolla on BBC 4. Seems like he went to Paris several times in the late 60s/early 70s. So might be of interest. The doc was a bit long, and the program afterwards on the origins and preservation of tango in Finland (made in the early 90s or so) was better (One...

Why has Electronica latched onto Folk?

From what I heard of these folktronica bands/artists it's hardly "folk" they collect/sample/are inspired by - more what I would call "acoustic troubadours". Ie they are more likely to sample a lowkey John Martyn/Nick Drake song (surely this is not "folk"?) than say a rousing Steeleye Span or...

What is good about Pop Music?

The Dr Who writers should do an episode with "evil iPods", headphone strangling beasts on the tube, white tentangle/snake headphones everywhere.

    M.I.A. vs. Mario Brothers

Yellow Magic Orchestra's early output (ca 1980) contains several tracks with "console music" - ie "Computer Game: Theme from the Invader" One of my favourite underrated bands - YMO, the third giant of synthpop for me (besides Kraftwerk and Foxx's "Metamatic")
