why do you think us dnb/grime/dubstep producers never quite get it right?

its like you've never heard liquid dnb. no what's wrong with the music is that it's creatively bankrupt. The shining lights have lost faith, they're just in it to keep up the mortgage repayments. And for the type of groove that those liquid boys aiming for, its blatantly too fast. the mash...

why do you think us dnb/grime/dubstep producers never quite get it right?

In a sense. I often think"street" music (such a shit term) tends to have certain focus, which the other lacks. Im using the term broadly, including reggae and hip hop as much as 'ardcore and punk. Middle class (.. fucking hate this termonology. its lazy) takes on these tend to be more floaty...

new mix - dubstep, grime, techno, hip hop etc

love that you brought sixtoo burial vex'd and wiley together, and it totally worked. wicked set. (but the minimal thing was a little too far into idm for me. but thats a minor.)

why do you think us dnb/grime/dubstep producers never quite get it right?

If you had a clip of Starkey saying "this is some real grime shit right now", alright, you'd have a reason to call him out. But he's not, so really you don't. So he's throwing some grime influence into his beats. Doesnt make him an imposter. It's unfair to criticise someone as misrepresentative...

why do you think us dnb/grime/dubstep producers never quite get it right?

Matty G "50 000 watts" is one of the best beats out there right now. Spoonie G sample. His "Bitter Love" from last year, with the g funk hook, that was so fresh. There's a growing amount US producers who are bringing in a hip hop influence to halfstep, which i would love to see explored in 2007...

safe for sharing the beats&lyrics compilations.. if only for "213 to 619 adjacent". SO good hearing that old ATU sound,. Even though it's not Fat Jack on the beat (some cat called Artistic?), it's still got that beautiful 3am South Central Thynk Taynk meloncholy. lovely. Been on repeat all night..

DUBSTEP- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

go down fabric and watch the whole venue go mental to pendulum, subfocus, or some bullshit. Put people on pills in front of a soundsystem playing bass heavy music with big drops and they'll dance. Making people dance is nothing. This is why dance music gets so old, so quick. Dubstep could be...

Hip-Hop - breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

So you think backpackers have taken an interest in mainstream rap because the indie scene is failing? That's interesting. I'm really interested as to the morale and energy in that scene, I dont imagine it's good. Istopped paying attention years ago. In the late 90s, the figureheads of indie rap...

    "Sampledelia"

"first came rock than rock went went pop now your living in the world of... triiip hop. trip hop baby, in 95 wreckin shit!!" yeah that was a major lapse in judgement. To be fair, thats the only time ive heard shadow use it positively, he very soon detested it. That was a heavy release btw...

DUBSTEP- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

So? that maximum bass impact thing gets long after a few hours of relentless pounding.. unless there's mid-range or melodic interest accompanying it. Blissblogger had a point No whats needed is more balls. There's bare people who love hearing hyperdub played out, the demand is there. But in...

DUBSTEP- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

i remember that too. it was the one of the only tunes played that night where I genuinely lost myself in the music, closed my eyes and pogo-ed on the spot for the duration. That and the mala alicia keys rerub. So i disagree.

    "Sampledelia"

Shadow, Vadim, Krush, these were hip hop producers, straight up. Geoff Barrow (portishead), Attica Blues, Tosh and Kudo (skylab).. their primary influence and inspiration too was hip hop. The only reason they are sometimes used in the same breath as coldcut, moloko or nightmares on wax is...

DUBSTEP- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

No that wouldnt be, but the exact words were "anywhere near" a top 5. That's harsh. I cant accuse of being wrong but I would ask you give it some props. And in BD summerising this year, I think its essential to draw as much attention to hyperdub as possible, cos that shit is not getting play...

DUBSTEP- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

Why. Because N Type didnt play it? In 10 years time kode9s album will still be an interesting, involving and rewarding listen. 95% of the dubstep records released year wont be. They will sound as boring and vapid as an alex reece record sounds today. Hyperdub makes dubstep worth listening to.

Hip-Hop - breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

Its nice, but sounds pretty dated man. Pete Rock's jazzy, smooth, rigidly straight beats sound bygone era now, there's not even a nod to modern hip hop. Dilla, Madlib, Flying Lotus, Oh No.. bare producers have shown that you can take the classic jazz/soul sample-based hip hop format and make...

Group Home "Living Proof" LP . To me, this is the pinnacle of Premo's beat making. It represents everything i love about mid nineties NY hip hop production. Stone cold classic. its also features some of the worst rapping of all time. listening to malachi "da nutcracker" trying to rap is a...
