    Animal Collective @ the Astoria

I was there too and thought pretty much the same. They played mainly new stuff too - but it was the stuff from the last album that got the crowd really going...the new stuff also sounds great though, more electronic. I dunno, but I reckon alot of the younger fans have come to them via (them...

    The Wire on Dubstep

All this while out-witting Sven for a third-time and taking Portugal to tonight's World Cup semi...this Gene Hackman lookalike has to be some kind of legend

    The Wire on Dubstep

I suppose what was good about the Wire in the mid-nineties was that it didn't have such a defined "demographic". It didn't have what is has now where you could describe a night/a shop or a radio show/station (Resonance) as Wire-readery. It's the definition of and pandering to 'the demographic'...

    The Wire on Dubstep

The editorial sucked, went something like: yes back in the nineties we paid a passing interest to jungle, but didn't like that 2 step rubbish and people kept telling us about grime, which we didn't really like (hell it's bad enough sharing a bus with those chavs without having to endure them on...

    Smallfish Records

yes, I concur with this too...I found it it quite desperate and they always had some godawful jazz-funk thing playing too. They also had those awful 'fit the demographic' recommendation chain promotions, things like "do you like Stereolab, hey we think you'll like this by Broadcast and this by...

Grime-where did it all go wrong?

Grime’s in a lull for sure, but it has inspired too many youngers to take up mcing (and to a lesser degree producing and djing) for it not to be maintained for some time yet, and hit new peaks when new styles and talent come through. The reasons for the lull have been already mentioned, artists...

    Food and Music

On the brilliant "Heavy Epic" by Bonnie Camplin (my favourite record right now!), there's a short track called "The Normal Food" which includes these lyrics In my fridge I got Daddies Sauce Cheddar Cheese Heinz Baked Beans (the normal food, the normal food)

    Can anyone rap?

That seals it, you must be the only. One.

    Can anyone rap?

I was thinking about this today. I listen to lots of hip hop and grime but if I try to rap I sound at best something like Roland Rat on 'rat rappin'. It seems to be something that only da yout can master - anyone beg to differ?

    Who isn't on myspace?

Aside from the obvious promotional benefits (for bands, nights, mags etc), yes Woebot is right, it’s all a bit shallow and nauseating. There is a sense of you’ve set up you’re page, put in all your favourite bands, tele programmes, movies, your mottos, you’ve stuck up a carefully choreographed...

    Food and Music

Q-tips ‘toast’ Completely true this – when I was about 11, I had my own band and wrote about 6 songs, all of which were about food. There was ‘cup of tea’, ‘bread and jam’, ‘biscuits’, ‘ice cream and jelly’, I forget the other two, but you get the gist.
