NYC area Dissensus folk: I-Sound (Wasteland) doing a set tonight. Expect some Grime.

Apologies if I'm breaking a rule or rules here but I thought it would be cool to let all Dissensus members in the NYC area know that thwer will be a benefit for tsunami victims/relief tonight in New York and my frined Craig (aka I-Sound) will be one of the participating DJ's. Knowing that...

'Canonical'-type shit you just don't get

AND he produced and played on Frida's "There's Something Going On", which to my mind redeems just about all of his other 80's silliness. Shit i just don't get: Eminem, Tupac, The Doors, most of the "popular" Stax canon (Sam & Dave, Booker T. , blah blah (those horn charts do not make me...

    Strings of life

I'm trying hard not to imagine what that SOL remake must sound like. How sad. After having watched Jacques Demy's Donkey Skin last night and being knocked about by its Michel Legrand sdtrk I have to say France - and Spain - in the late-60s to mid-70's had the "rousing/swoony/gorgeous strings...

    Music inspired by William Blake.

Happy Holidays! http://www.archive.org/audio/audio-details-db.php?collection=naropa&collectionid=naropa_allen_ginsberg_performing Site requires registration but it's so worth it as there's a massive amount of goodness to be found there. I really love these Ginsberg interpretations of Blake.

    World of Echo reissue.

Yeah, apology here also for continuing on the AR Kane tangent but I have to agree on how great New Clear Child is. "Snow White's World" is particularly majestic. The one time I saw them perform was in Hoboken, NJ in support of this album and they did an amazing job of getting the synth/sample...

    World of Echo reissue.

Sorry. I'm working off v. foggy memory today. :o Something about "World Of Echo"/"69"/oceanic aspects of both in "Blissed Out" is what made me think you had compared the two.

    World of Echo reissue.

What on "i" in particular sounds like "COOC"? If I recall, Alex & Rudi of A. R . Kane were pretty deliberate in listening to as little outside music as possible when working on their stuff. I was corresponding with Alex via email a few years back and I once asked if it was true they never...

    Rolling crate digging triumph thread

OK. Folks in the vicinity of Williamsburg: corner of N 9th and Driggs, downstairs. Eso es todo. Here's what I bought yesterday, all vinyl, all under $3.00, all in great condition. I nearly passed out with excitement. Loads of original Prelude/Salsoul/etc. but you need to dig. : Propaganda...

    Coffee is the real enemy.

I dunno. Espresso n' hot water (called an "Americano" for some silly reason) every night after work revives me like nothing else. A charm. I really wouldn't be able to focus on my own music after 8 hours of working on other people's if it wasn't for coffee. Never drink it in the morning, though.

    Prog.

After having seen the "classic" lineup perform this past summer, my Yes love has come back full speed. No apologies. And I'm getting into seriously Cluster/Cluster & Eno at the moment.

what did you listen to today?

Woke up to Wasteland live then various Italo things on the way to work ("Mr. Game"/"We Just"/"Tequila") then a (bad) mix of an Italo track I recently made followed by EPMD Classics and now it's Francois De Roubaix' "L'Homme Orchestre" sdtrk.

    Books on Music

<I>saw this http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...789455?v=glance on Sherburne's blog...was wondering if anybody here has read it yet? </I>. Reading "Audio Culture" at the moment and it's an excellent anthology.

    Stan Brakhage, hey

Brakhage is mostly wonderful. I still find a few of his films completely baffling in that I don't react to them at all on a technical or aesthetic level, yet the majority of what I've seen I find intense and moving. The Criterion Collection released an excellent Region 1 2-DVD set of many of...

Nick - "Paris Hilton" is more straightforward Chicago House, trackwise. It was a bit disappointing on first listen but is now growing on me. There's less of the lovely cut up samba drum madness that's all over "Afro Finger...".

"Tell You Something" never fails to blow me away. I absolutely love the production on the MU album. There's a new one coming soon, I think.
