so cool that liberal capitalist governments have never been politically repressive and whenever the u.s. and nato intervene in another country it's morally justified because "look how badly they're fucking it up over there, surely we must do something"
really glad we live on the same planet

Is liberalism a

coherent ideology
,

though? You sometimes see if given a capital letter, in which case fine, you're probably referring to some fairly well defined Enlightenment-era concept, but in ordinary usage it can mean more or less anything. Leftists like droid come out with nonsense like "all liberals love fascists" while people on the right, especially Americans, use it as a synonym for socialism and even communism. I suppose I think of myself as "liberal" as an adjective (not necessarily "a liberal" like a member of some movement) because the antonym of liberal is illiberal, which is to say, authoritarian.

The Last Ringbearer (Russian: Последний кольценосец) is a 1999 fantasy book by Russian author Kirill Eskov. It is an alternative account of, and an informal sequel to, the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings

The novel is based on the premise that the Tolkien account is a "history written by the victors". In Eskov's version of the story, Mordor is described as a peaceful country on the verge of an industrial revolution, that is a threat to the war-mongering and imperialistic faction represented by Gandalf (whose attitude has been described by Saruman as "crafting the Final Solution to the Mordorian problem") and the elves.

Ahh well that's because real liberalism has never been tried!

Seriously though, if bad things have been done in the name of liberalism, it's still preferable to fascism, communism or theocracy, and people who most vociferously oppose liberalism usually lean in one of those three directions.

Also I don't think calling yourself (a) liberal means you have to insist the Iraq invasion was morally right and a great idea any more than identifying as a socialist means you rate Stalin and Mao or being a Muslim means you love ISIS or whatever.

not sure why you are loling at my completely correct assessment of the situation, droid

Droid lives in a world of moral and intellectual absolutes vim.

If you don’t share his point of view you are either evil or stupid.

I for one commend him for his discipline in this thread. Me and you posted two things solely to bait him and he responded with a lol and a gif. He’s stronger willed than me.

You'll have to do better than that. I'm surrounded by the sophomoric idiocy of students every day.

droid, how fair an assessment would you say this is of you?

how far could someone deviate from you opinion about, palestine or iraq or something and you still find their argument sensible?
