"Chi-Fi"

For the audiophiles. Anyone tried it? It's not even a very new phenomenon apparently.

I met up with a mate who had got a small player and some headphones from AliBaba and was very satisfied with the extra high quality for such cheap prices - he said that there's a sweet spot around $50 where you're getting kit that is as good as fancy overpriced stuff that costs 10x as much (so it exists, it's not just an internet hype! though it seems to play out on forums like a meme)

This pretty much tells it like he told it https://www.theverge.com/2019/11/7/20943377/chinese-hi-fi-audio-chifi-fiio-hifiman-tin-audio

I kind of like the egalitarian, undermining brandism and western trade models aspect to it, though there are other stereotypings and bullshit involved instead to some extent...

They're the only earbuds I buy.

Gone through multiple sets down through the years. OurArt TI7, Musicmaker Tomahawk, Auglamour FF3, Yuin PK1, VE Monk, PAA-1 PRO. Currently running a set of NiceHCK EB2s, and saving up for a pair of Rose Masya Pros.

Read the reviews on Head Fi and remember that anything higher than 32 Ohm Impedance will sound very low on a phone.

Im not an IEM guy - try here for recs: https://www.head-fi.org/articles/head-fi-buying-guide-in-ear-headphones.17592/

Find one you like the sound of that fits your budget then check ali baba or penon.

Otherwise go here: https://penonaudio.com/iems?__cf_ch...unrkR6P6GCNAHcQf1i-Y5jsmQfbZejkJ_nq7vSj9ZmvhA

And find some that suit your budget and check reviews on head fi. Remember to watch for impedance. The best ones tend to have higher impedance and will need amplification for normal use.

I use the Tin Audio T2s and I'm pretty happy. The build qualilty is amazing for the price, going to try some different tips as I managed to loose the blue ones it came with.

Anyone got recommendation for cheap mp3 player under 30 quid (maybe one I can get second hand), just want to get something that I can easily put music on to play in my car, ideally be able to download mixes/ podcasts but not that important.

Before my old car blew up i was using a defunct nokia windows mobile for this. 32gb storage, can still be used for wifi, basic interface but touchscreen, put loads of mp3s on it. Something like this-
