I'd love to know exactly what involvement the FBI has had in black music in the hip-hop era. The hip-hop cointelpro files

how real is realness? Because maybe an overidentification with the political real is also a freudian coping mechanism against facing up to traumatic truths etc etc...

Yeah that was just me talking to myself. You know for a fact they've been involved but what have they done and what have they been able to achieve? What leverage do they have with labels? Individual artists? Radio?

Dunno about FBI.

As for noi? It's just aesthetics really.

Most capital P political music is much less political than it likes to think it is. its marketing. in the same way that Barty criticises bladerunner jungle.

That doesn't mean you have to see it as sincere or insincere. Aesthetics don't have to play that dualistic game i don't think.

Public Enemy came at the right time with that whole crack epidemic. they tapped into a zeitgeist of family values.

But you know, there's a revealing bit in bliss's interview with Chuck P where he's like I have some socialistic ideas.

Except real history is never about ideas but the violent clashes of opposing forces. you can sell ideas but you can't really sell the complexity of history.

Given the conversation has stalled let's swivel away from politics. The thread is not a politics thread. It's a moral decay gone to dogs things ain't what they used to be thread.

I mean I reject such a thing (ontologically/foundationally reject it i mean) as moral decay so I can't be of much help there.

most traditional folksongs about unrequited love are about ahmed seeing that haroon has sussed he has hard on and is not going to let hitija get done in by him and left preggers

It's just that the lewdness was concealed behind flowery prose. it has always been there if you know where to look.
