pass the sick bucket
i like this stuff when i hear it but i don't think the map is revealed to me yet. i don't know much about it's history, evolution, subdivisions.

it's the marriage of black dance music coming out of Chicago and Detroit and (jungle obvs) with the punitive aesthetics of industrial/avant-garde noise, but without being Coil making acid or whatever. it's very much part of some kind of nebulous rave scene and isn't really that much to do with neo-EBM or whatever. imagine if we followed the nuum from Europe and not the UK, and naturally it would have taken us a few years to be exposed to jungle proper. It's far less to do with manipulation of voices, breakbeats or old jazz funk/soul samples, but pure electronics.

this is one of my favourite mixes of this kind of aesthetic convergence, (non)genre. it's not really deconstructed/post-club because a certain kind of soundworld has to be maintained. although i don't doubt some of the anthropologists will scoff on here - even though it's acceptable to play combined sets of new wave, minimal synth and post-punk.

I get similar noises out of my vibrator :crylarf::crylarf::crylarf:

Jessica, please don't be so impudent! Barty may have no moral scruples about boning recently turned 20-year-olds, but I do have standards. after all the song goes:
Arsenal boys we are here, shag your women and drink your beer, la la la la la la la….. Arsenal Arsenal Arsenal.

Doesn't say arsenal boys we are here drink your beer and shag your freshers does it now. That's tottenham and Millwall.

Hey, I know that loser!
FYI, that Quoth "Beat 1 pt 2" track I played - it was favor to an acquaintance that was just starting to mess around with music - the production is kind off and I don't think it mixed well, but he was happy about it, so...

I miss this time period because I was actually getting a lot of plays and downloads, and getting asked for sets by all sorts of crews, and funny things like various Europeans like the Fondation Sonore crew reaching out to me for gigs until they found out I was from the states and then I wouldn't hear from them again, or Flint Kids naming a track after me (!), or ADC weirdly putting an excerpt of one of the mixes on a retrospective CD - or even weirder that you can buy those mix excerpts at places like Beatport.

In comparison, it has been fucking crickets and quite disheartening since I got back into it.

I forgot how insane this mix gets near the end. It kind of makes me laugh at the person that I remember saying WTF already at the time of the Le Talium track since that was just a little taster of what would come later, and of course I played the Closer at 45.
