... how do we want things to be?

this is a time of opportunity for change - we all knew it was coming

maybe we can do some positive visualisation of how things might have fallen into place through all of this turmoil?

assuming the internet keeps going :) we are clearly the worlds leading online community in our unique field - i'm not exactly sure what that is, but now is our time!

Do you think it could occasion a disentanglement of internationalism (independence from "global supply chains" etc, authorities erecting silos around their domains/nations), or do you think it will have prompted and sustained an unprecedented degree of international cooperation?

What I think has to happen in the meantime is the formation of work teams (in which I would be obliged to participate given my circumstances), chained or otherwise, to dig graves, scrub hospital floors, drive delivery vehicles, fumigate the homeless and so on and so forth.

These would be formed of the unemployed and the temporarily jobless. This includes those who work on the blackmarket, whether it is cash in hand labourers, drug dealers or whatever.

There needs to be either total suspension of the money form or UBI/parachute payments. No bills, no rent, no tax.

Surely the supermarket shelves can't stay empty forever given no one needs to eat or wipe their arse any more than they do on any other day.

Sufi's allotment should be commandeered by the state and used to grow courgettes for all of Haringey.

Huge numbers of people still need to work. The fraction of people who can usefully work from home is negligible. If you can do it from home it's probably useless. So they get signed onto the chain gangs too.

A superstitious guerrilla cult sabotaging and tearing down all 5G towers would be welcome.

At the very least regular earth holidays instated. Two months of drastically reduced activity every year.

There's already legislation in the new bill to say the state can order any company, eg a road haulage firm, to transport dead bodies. They're expecting a lot of corpses.

The amount of businesses that are about to go the wall is astronomical. There will be a huge reserve army of labour. Form the grave digging teams now. Give us work.

You're going to have to invent a five day nurse training. 50% of us will be nurses fast tracked into the NHS

It's really going to make clear just how grotesque inequality is. Millionaires self isolating in mansions, each family member has their own wing. Garden is 20 square miles. Other people sharing a bedroom in a tiny flat with mouldy walls. Stay in there for 6 months, don't leave. Can you imagine how desperate things are going to get?

Darned cockwombles.
Loads of adverts for farm work already, given the shortages there. No doubt many more will follow. And supermarkets, temporarily at least.

Of the 'just turn up' variety, pretty much

All good points, but not sure it's what Sufi meant? Situation in London sounds way more intense than up north

It's encouraging how quickly nature reasserts itself once we get out of the way,

'Nature is taking back Venice': wildlife returns to tourist-free city

Look down into the waters of the Venice canals today and there is a surprising sight – not just a clear view of the sandy bed, but shoals of tiny fish, scuttling crabs and multicoloured plant-life.

“The water is blue and clear,” said Gloria Beggiato, who owns the celebrated Metropole Hotel a few steps from St Mark’s square and has a view over the Venice lagoon. “It is calm like a pond, because there are no more waves caused by motorised boats transporting day-tripper tourists. And of course, the giant cruise ships have disappeared.”

Under Venice’s strict rules of self-confinement to prevent the spread of the coronavirus – all journeys but a trip to walk the dog or buy food are forbidden – the ancient city has been transformed almost overnight.
