Popular Modernism

This reminds me of what one of my mates said about a bunch of the most aggressively political students he went to uni with being white and wealthy and constantly taking it upon themselves to speak on behalf of everyone else.

But also the spectacle, if I can get away with using that term, has specific vacancies available for a small number of people to speak on behalf of huge and disparate 'communities.' So it can 'listen to their concerns' and enter into 'dialogue' with these huge and disparate 'communities.'

Is that from Normal People? I keep hearing about that book.

yeah i loved it. Bit like david nicholls one day, addictive romance, finished in a day. But i raise it because she threads marxist ideas through something very mass appeal
