Tentative Andy

I'm in the Meal Deal
fancy meeting up & bunning a couple beforehand?

Out-of-context this made me imagine you two doing a drive-by cake assault on some young lovers. :D

Anyone in London not planning on going to Beyond tonight has to be insane, obv. Sick line-up.

yea I am diabolically broke, Ibiza killed me, but am looking to reach this & u dun know 2morrow

Yeah, binned all of my money on Road Rap cd's and old Grime records. Skint for the month now.

I really wanted to go to Dun Know as well but its Beyond or Dun Know and Beyond has won.

bare BARE BONES
I don't think that is going anywhere. Same as with the Terror Danjah Gremlin thing.

I went to the Radioclit Secousse carnival party the other day and they were mixing in loads of mental stuff with Funky.

I got given The Very Best CD with a tune called Wena on it. I think it is vocalled by Esau Mwamwaya. Anybody know anymore stuff like this?

Its the second tune on their myspace player

Isn't Wena a DJ Cleo track?
Check the African House thread for more of that

"I want your number nah-weh!!!"

Yer, that's a Cleo tune. Video's hilarious too.

yeah the mixtape has lots of beat lifts on it. being a mixtape and all.

i'm not sure i would rate Crazy Cousins tunes over Geeneus. i kind of think Yellowtail might still be tops. not really the same vibe of course... it would be weird to call him underrated, but i think maybe people took for granted a bit just how solid most all of Geeneus' contributions have been thusfar.

i was meaning to ask what people thought about that 3cd mix set that came out on ministry of sound early on this summer. is there any commercially available funky mix that comes close to touching Volumes at this point? (this is a godshonestquestion by the way... doesn't feel like there are many to choose from anyhow, but maybe you know better)

I'd rank Crazy Cousinz like this:

1. Inflation
2. Bongo Jam
3. Always Be Mine
4. Day 'n' Night Remix
5. Need You Bad Remix
6. Do You Mind Remix
7. Go Remix
8. Sweet Music Remix
9. Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes Remix
10. "High Heels" (can't remember the exact name of this)
11. Those Were The Days Remix
12. I See You
13. The Boy Does Nothing Remix

All the above are varying levels of great.

I'd highly recommend both "Always Be Mine" and the slamming remix of Kid Cuci's "Day 'n' Night" to anyone who thinks that they've sunk into formulaic polite remix work (which a lot of their stuff can be, to be fair).

Also, the 3 disc Ministry comp is great, much better than the mix cd on Volumes I think. The Footloose and Supa-D discs especially. Footloose's disc has long stretches of this really tough soca-rave feel (e.g. his own remix of "Celebrate Life") that comes on surprisingly raw-feeling for a MOS comp.

Marcus Nasty claims his Rinse mix is gonna be pretty underground. He described his Supa Dupa mix as "commercialised crap" in his Blackdown interview, which surprised me given the tracklisting for that looks like... an average Marcus Nasty radio set! But it makes me think he must be going for more of a tribal/MC cut vibe (only sans MCs, presumably) for his Rinse disc. Perhaps along the lines of the now infamous November 2008 set with Coldsteps, Frisco etc.

It's good but I'd put it immediately below my list above. Definitely better than, say, the Estelle remix.

Do not read this.
Beyond was nice last night, shame I had to leave to catch last train mid way through cooly. Scratcha killed it though, basically played ALL the tunes I am feeling at the moment.

Turd on the Run
I think I got Marcus' digits to send him tunes to, but I haven't tried it yet. Also asked Geeneus about this tune:

<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,18,0" width="325" height="28" id="divmp3"><param name="movie" value="http://www.divshare.com/flash/playlist?myId=7955050-4e2" /><embed src="http://www.divshare.com/flash/playlist?myId=7955050-4e2" width="325" height="28" name="divmp3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed></object>

Can't remember what he said it was called, but it's not by him apparently. Keeping it close to his chest.

Sorry, should have been clearer. Its a promo mix for the forthcoming album and they use other people beats and some Radioclit stuff with Esau Mwamwaya singing over the top.

I will go and have a read of the African House thread and see if there is anything similar.

Beyond was alot. Cooly's set was great though she seemed to be suffering with the PP system. i felt for her as PP is so unforgiving when you're trying to mix and cant hear what's going on.

Marcus came on and it was like having Pay As U Go come on after Matt Jam Lamont = instant hype. Scratch's set was great, really diverse - the first tune I heard him play sounded like Slimzee, the last like Youngsta and the middle was much more groove-lead. Plus his glasses were next level, even more so than elijah's Arsenal slippers.
