The Harlequin

We was talking about the twinning of lil Wayne and kartel the other day. There's something really deep there I think. As if it was the same daimon singing through both of them. Some deeply ambiguous spirit of the age.

Alkaline
Kartel's triumph.

A jamaica devoid of humanity. devoid of god.

a freak of nature. bleached skin, tattooed eyeballs, an impish wine. a jinn.

the infantilised future.

an androgynous clone vessel of the new world order.

Tommy Lee Sparta
There's a future that london's been hiding from.

it can be seen in the pitchfork androgyny of young thug. in the boo hoo minstrel smile of quavo. in the bleach of kartel's skin. in lil wayne's skateboard.

it is an autotune future. a post-gender future. a post-human future.

it is abstract and abstracted. dissociative. it rejects concrete. it rejects weight. it is the cold glare of an iphone screen in a dark bedroom. it is viscous. it is spastic.

london could not entertain this future as presented by atlanta. it couldn't entertain this future when presented by africa. it couldn't entertain this future when presented by jamaica. until now perhaps.

tommy lee is this future. he's absorbed young thug. he's absorbed cloud rap. he's absorbed wayne and kartel and alkaline. and yet... there is a humanity there. there is aggression and mania. yearning. ego. drive.

tommy lee is the human future. whether london embraces him or not is yet to be seen.

whatever future is awaiting london, one thing is for sure.

it'll be glorious.

Possession. The spirit of the age. The hermaphroditic unconscious. Fatally ambiguous.

"Why are they so happy when we visit them? Because they need us, desperately. They want to jinnify us, they want to turn us into them; they jump in and out of our chests in order to transmute our human hearts into Jinnish hearts, to make us changelings; they offer us their magical linguistic technologies because they want to replace human language with Jinnish language"

Dematerialisation Part 2

In many respects this is the sequel to the demtarialsiation thread.

Where that thread focussed on the physiological phenomenology of the internet age, this thread attempts to isolate its relationship with identity.

the internet has allowed us great degrees of fluidity when it comes to our identity. of course this can be seen in social media’s current preoccupation with gender fluidity and non-conformity, but it’s far more subtle than that. with access to the internet, your selection of stimuli is determined by factors like geography, class and race to a greatly diminished degree. more than that, the internet allows you infinite opportunities to inhabit fraudulent identities; parody twitter accounts, anonymous accounts free from social repercussion and ostracisation, bots, online trolls (fantastical, folkloric terminology that fits within my lexicon of ‘impish’ and ‘jinn'), etc.

corpsey is testament to the effect that this can have on your behaviour; he claims that he genuinely felt far less inhibited simply by adopting his alter ego corp$ey. likewise version displays the control you can assert over what you put out there; he’ll delete things he’s posted. that’s a mean of controlling who you are and how you come across that you're not able to do in real-world interaction.

this music reflects all of that.

alkaline, lil uzi and tommy lee sparta all flirt with white-boy gothic aesthetic sensibilities.

mumble rappers are all overtly flamboyant, with young thug explicitly and consciously being androgynous.

but far more remarkable than any of that race and gender stuff, is this lava lamp morphing of persona.

for example tommy lee starts his verse 18 seconds in as a gruff, guttural bloke, but within the space of a few seconds he's crossfaded into this brattish cyborg. he briefly dips back again at 29 seconds and by 39 seconds he’s become a muezzin from the 30th century, which quickly fades as he becomes a normal bloke and so on. like someone’s constantly changing the chanel on his personality.

the mask

"PUT off that mask of burning gold
With emerald eyes."
"O no, my dear, you make so bold
To find if hearts be wild and wise,
And yet not cold."

"I would but find what's there to find,
Love or deceit."
"It was the mask engaged your mind,
And after set your heart to beat,
Not what's behind."

"But lest you are my enemy,
I must enquire."
"O no, my dear, let all that be;
What matter, so there is but fire
In you, in me?"

This is very important to me and is something I've been trying to explain for a very long time.

You open yourself up to the outside and others enter, traverses the empty cylinder, speak
through it, shake it, different all taking possession of the body and speaking through it here voices

So this is the nature of it. This is how it works. Different personalities fight for control of the body, the face twitches, switches from grin to grimace, growls, spit, drools. Spirits sweep in the wind.

So we look into the mirror and see different consciousnesses animate our faces, a parade of possible personalities, bumptious, saintly, forlorn, grave, growling, feral, snarling,
latent potentialities waiting to be actualised, a chaos of souls without bodies, gnashing and wailing
Mittyesque, cackling

Occupy the space for a moment

What is the unconscious? What is the outside? What is the not-self? What is speaking? What is in the dark and answers us?

the evolution of anonymity. it's no longer required because the face no longer means anything. it's an arbitrary superficiality through which a whole cast of malleable characters can be channeled.

Rebis from Theoria Philosophiae Hermeticae (1617) by Heinrich Nollius

Rebis from Theoria Philosophiae Hermeticae (1617) by Heinrich Nollius
The Rebis (from the Latin res bina, meaning dual or double matter) is the end product of the alchemical magnum opus or great work.

After one has gone through the stages of putrefaction and purification, separating opposing qualities, those qualities are united once more in what is sometimes described as the divine hermaphrodite, a reconciliation of spirit and matter, a being of both male and female qualities as indicated by the male and female head within a single body. The sun and moon correspond to the male and female halves, just as the Red King and White Queen are similarly associated.

The Rebis image appeared in the work Azoth of the Philosophers by Basil Valentine in 1613.

This reminds me of that thing of staring at your reflection until you no longer recognise yourself. You can do the same with words.

" ... find a word, a familiar word, on a page, and then stare at it for a while, just let your eyes linger upon it; and soon enough, sometimes after no more than a few seconds, the word comes to look misspelled, or badly transcribed, or as if there are other things wrong with it; so I tried it once, with the most familiar word there is: love, first verb in the Latin primer, the word known to all men; and after no more than five seconds I could swear that it wasn't the same word I had always known: it looked odd, misshapen, and as if it had all kinds of different pronunciations, except the one I had always believed was correct, and had always used; and so there was dissonance... "
