This one's like circling a drain, but upwards and out into space.

just playing devil's advocate...why do we blow off an article we haven't read -- in fact, one that we admit has a good premise -- just because of the source? shouldn't we give it a chance? who knows, perhaps the article is good. are we too set in our ways, and don't want to question our predetermined opinions?

I'll probably end up reading it, but RA are RA. They've done that thing of having huge graphics inserted into the article to make it look substantially longer too which irritates me a little.

It's a good question. We do seem to encourage a certain belligerence on here at times, but I think it's usually justified in the case of RA.

I sometimes wonder if I've missed out on an interesting pitchfork column simply because I loath pitchfork. I'm being closed minded, if I'm honest.

I feel like that about Cormac McCarthy. I've never really read him, but something about the few quotes I have and the way people discuss his stuff rubs me the wrong way. I could well be shooting myself in the foot and missing out on something good.

but ya know, you can't be everywhere, do everything, know everything. not enough hours in the day. have to pick your favs and unfavs and let the chips fall where they may. FOMO is part of the human condition.

The first Disintegration Loop if perfect but it's almost like he's daring you to dislike it with that cheesy self-mythologized backstory branding.

He's not a genius though, because he never made anything else that hit that magic.

one thing I love about Basinski, tho, is he looks like a rock star. you always picture guys who produces that kind of thing as nerdy reclusives, yet there he is with spiked hair and tight plastic trousers!
