I know one enthusiast who manically bangs out hardcore on a gameboy tracker (afaik nowadays the setup is two gameboys running in sync(?) plugged into a mixer).
It is interesting how grimy his sound palette is:

the tracker universe is a realm of superfast eventspeed sugar rush maximalism. the population consists of small, brightly colored, manically cheerful cartoon characters, and serial killers. long term planning does not exist; mind-numbing repetition and anarchy reign supreme. if there's a single macro-scale automation curve to be found, it’s in the meta trajectory of the music itself, powering up uninterrupted from 1990-2005, gaining speed and complexity at the rapid cost of coolness. an evolution oblivious to the cries of just4ulondon male djs that “the ladies aren’t into it.” the demand to keep the rollercoaster of violence going, build new amusements at least every 100 feet means there’s no incentive to fetishize high quality materials (a la deepchord). low res cheapness is piled up and multiplied, pushed to precarious bullet hell density. (even venetian snares, whom autechre appointed Renoise King, often seems to be tossing whatever stock spooky ambience fx sounds he downloaded yesterday into the blender in tracks from his classic 2000s run, albeit manipulating them with considerable skill). "mr bones, i want to get off your wild ride!" is this realm the ulimate hedonic prison or the road to infinity?

Started producing with tracker 💚 It was Fast Tracker II.

There's some gems in demoscene tracker productions.
