If you don't join in on this you're not a proper dissensian, like if you don't like hardcore rave or instant noodles.

I haven't started it yet but I read the intro essay to the penguin modern classics restored edition and (appealing to the dissensus dudes here) I'm feeling pretty "stoked."

In anticipation I'll start with a couple of tunes because it's said that Ticket is the most musical of WSB's cut-up (or fold-in) novels. Perhaps their significance will become apparent as we read on...

The working title of the book was "Johnny's So Long At The Fair"

And this needs no introduction. Here comes Johnny Yen again with the liquor and drugs and the flesh machine.

It's hard not to read Burroughs as a warning call, one that we never listened to, and now it's probably much too late to do anything about it. A bit like Orwell or Huxley or Ballard, but even more profound and prescient, and less understood than them because of the obvious difficulties in reading him.

Johnny - both a condom and what goes inside it

Yen - to yearn for it

Ticket - an image of hidden determinism that invokes the insides of music machines, like the punch cards in an old fairground organ or the perforated rolls of a player piano.
