The Ever-Expanding 'Dub Zone'

We've got threads for BC, Chain Reaction, etc. but thought it might be an idea to have one for the ever-expanding zone of dub-influenced stuff in general rather than just tacking everyone on the end of their thing.

As well as the techno gear, there seems to be more and more of this undulating, dubby stuff that's begun to shed the techno element, or at least allowed it to fragment and vapourise to the point of becoming a sort of pulsing mass of thumps, tones and effects.

a bit of historical context on this thread for new people: originally, version's aesthetic centered on this sort of music, but to reconcile with luka's war on "landfill electronica" he shifted focus to "films that feel like they could have been michael mann" (as linebaugh put it). now, with luka no longer posting as much, he's free to publicly re-investigate it.

This would fit with the recent avatar change too. Interesting.

As a back-drop, overt sound worlds where key signatures become ubiquitous for producers to plunder and release a dubby lp or ep at certain junctures in their creative arcs. Is this a newer iteration or evolving sound enterprises?

eg Lustmord in Dub (2017), not one of my personal go to artists due to repeatedly making works too gloomy too often for the sake of it without elevating said gloominess into coherent intriguing listening, ie less cliche ridden and def style over substance. All after previously overdosing on dripping water sounds, ott echo fx etc and trying to tease out keepers

Don't wanna stray too off topic .. I find this release’s elephant ‘sleeve’ quite eye-catching just vertically panel the text so it allows the image to punch more .. sorry Mr Williams, constructive criticism

Granted, 2017 is almost a lifetime ago and the first half doesnt have much I’d advocate for (but, hey, it’s your time and no one judges). After a load of skipping, second half slightly adjusts to mission protocols, still a bit lite, drifting/untethered so it’s frustrating when more coherent sections pull right into focus. Moments of Morricone in dub too

Track 3 is where my ears perked up, track 1 got stuck initially but it kept me listening much more intently than track 3 even though it sounds like compressed lumpen static processed through a k-hole. The track that followed it on its bandcamp release playlist is more fluid, One Draw Ena 6. Adaptation, might have to take a punt on buying

Probably the closest EP to a using a couple of more trad sounds that I've got in a good long while:

I expect @thirdform to post his favorite cologne acid dub.
They did a fair bit back in the 90s.
There was even the eponymous Electronic Dub album.

pulsing mass of thumps, tones and effects

nah, don't want it, we had that with "roll off", ~scape, and IDM

I fell for the Boomkat hype, bought both the "False Azalia" 12 inches ( SOLD OUT! ) and they arrived yesterday ( FALSE 02 is top right in the first post ). ( I may be able to sell on at a profit? played once, NM )

BOOMKAT says about FALSE 01:
it's hard to get past that incredible opening track, tapping into the same emotionally melted zone as Rhythm & Sound + Tikiman’s ‘Na Fe Throw It’,

not really, just play 'Na Fe Throw It' again and you'll get past it

the top right selection just reminds me of a sub-par Akufen minus everything good

I couldn't wait for the 12 inch to end, in fact I refilled my rum and coke 3 /4 in and went for a piss

I could spam the thread with ECHO LTD and CHALLENGER DEEP tracks, but I'm going to announce that the best DUB album of the year , purely based on the first tune is STRAIGHT OUTTA LEIPZIG

MAFFI - GHETTO RIDDIM

Leipzig is a place I have visited on a number of occasions the last couple of years ( for "reasons" ) and although I always attempt to visit the secret reggae shop up the 3 stairs in the skateboard shop in a bad part of town I would never have suspected that some of my favourite avant dub originated from there, but I read labels and the LXC nexus of 45seven, alpha cutauri, and the 8 bit bleeps of JAHTARI all originate from the former DDR town

edit: I might be "rum infused", I may delete this within minutes

I'm always disappointed when established DUB REGGAE guys FUCK UP and BALLS UP

Alex Kassian x Mad Professor - A Reference To E2-E4 By Manuel Göttsching (Mad Professor's Qantas Crazy Remix )

One of the best selling records of the year ( in that it sold out out immediately ) and it is shit, "future Baelaric classic" be dammed , so yeah E2-E4 is one of the worst ASHRA tunes, totally over rated, but this sends me to sleep, but not in a good way
