woops

is not like other people
this used to be a place that thrived with intelligence, creativity, ideas, wit and character

every time i go on here i see YouTube clips with no comment, wierd political side-taking, innocent people expressing distress

there are valiant attempts at intellect but it's so rare to come on here and feel it's wothh engaging with in public. i can't be the only one feeling like this.

Yeah it's pretty dire

Not sure what happened

A load of toxic political arguments spilling over into random threads didn't help

But also a lack of inspiration around new (or any) music which has been the case for ages ofc, and the forum has gone in different directions like talking about film or books more so it's not NECESSARY but the music forum used to be the hub of the forum for me and right now it's quite dead, most threads are archival (and I've started and posted in threads like this so I'm not saying it's a YOU LOT problem)

We need something to get excited about I suppose

Feels a little like the purpose of dissensus was to have the elevated stoner conversation of 'you ever notice how the internet and the real world are merging?' And we've fully done that now and now what

I think there's been potential for good conversations but they just never fully lift off.

I think it's all fine though, the fact that this place is comatose for most of the time makes it one of the healthier places on the internet and outside of anything that mixed biscuits and the Facebook crew posts it's pleasant here.

mixed biscuits

If he has to do it, I wish he'd go troll people on Twitter or something instead of doing it here. This was one of the few places that hadn't been ruined by that sort of thing until about two years ago.

It obviously doesn't work at all without luka

Maybe he'd come back if the rest of us put more effort in rather than expecting him to entertain us.

I think me, Kent and Linebaugh should change our usernames back too. It's irritating now. I can change mine on the 24th as you can only change your name once a month.

I should probably make a conscious effort to stop banging on about the same writers all the time too. I'm sure a few people have thought, "Hey, look, version's talking about Burroughs/Baudrillard/Debord again!".

This seems to be a broader issue online. Everyone's said everything you could say about everything, so now it's just constant recycling. I've seen this on the Red Scare subs too. The options seem to be rehashing the same meta conversations or picking something specific and going deep, i.e. doing 'dematerialisation' over and over or doing threads on certain artists or genres, although usually what happens is people don't go deep and it just becomes a half-arsed thing where some tunes and opinions get posted and that's it.

If you look at early Dissensus, it was mostly the latter. It was only really a period of a few years from like 2018 to 2021 where we had the big ideas threads on here. There are some lengthier, more substantial posts, but a lot of the threads had next to no replies and were just standard music discussions or political discussions with some nasty arguments thrown in.

I shitpost here so I can be in top form everywhere else, and its mainly the craner thread which satisfies that instinct. In this sense its a monumental public service we are conducting, not only to the great man himself but to the internet at large.

He'll love this.
