It's been huge for a while, but it feels bigger than ever what with Trump's presence and the influence of Rogan's podcast. I think there's still more money in the upper levels of boxing, but the cultural momentum's with Dana White and co. The Jones-Stipe fight the other night did seem like a bit of a joke, but not to the extent an elderly Mike Tyson fighting a YouTuber on Netflix was.
The whole thing seems to exist on almost another planet to the rest of mainstream culture too as so many of the big names are genuinely awful people and it's just accepted. We've just seen McGregor found liable for rape in civil court, Jon Jones is a domestic abuser and injured a pregnant woman in a hit and run, and there are plenty of issues with other fighters too. It's unsurprising given their profession, but the bubble they exist in's quite surreal.
