If you were to draw a picture of a house...

If I put a picture of a house in front you, and then took the picture away for let's say 5 minutes,

  • I would first draw an outline.

  • I would start drawing "disembodied" parts like a window, a door, etc.

Would you create an outline, or would you start drawing "disembodied" elements like "I think a window was somewhere over here, and there was a door in the middle", etc.

it depends on the house, if it's a boring house i'd draw the outline first if it has really funky and groovy details then maybe i'd draw those first. in general if you aim to produce a realistic drawing you would first draw the outline because then you can determine the distance between the several elements.

I guess 6 people isn't really much to "draw a picture from" (pun intended), but I asked this for two reasons:
#1 Because I recently attempted to draw something again for the first time in decades.
#2 When I went through all sorts of tests (so many tests...) when I got diagnosed with nvld, the doctor made a lot of comments about some of the different tests, but this is one of the things I remember because I guess it's really weird not to start with an outline instead of "I think a window was somewhere over here, and there was a door in the middle", etc.
