He can't post on Dissensus right now because he's blocked the site on his phone with one of those time waster apps. But I will speak him for him, you can trust me.

All the clothes shops for women, like free people, and Anthropologie, have this faerie lightness. Shimmering reflective gauzey transparent lacey sequins.

Whereas the mens shops are called BOSS and AMERICAN MADE and they have thick heavy nautical motorcycle Americana hunting jackets peacoats. Serious thick classic

Ian wants to make sure we distinguish between what he calls Earthy Sprawl Aesthetic, which is what he grew up with in the 90s, lots of earth tones and plants and water.

And then the "Dematerialized Sprawl" aesthetic which has replaced it. Which is aligned with Sky rather than earth. Lots of white airy lightness

Why do we call it Shopping Mall Polytheism?

Well it is a reference to the Desert Monotheism vs Jungle Polytheism dyad.

And the idea that each member of the family worships different gods. And the mall has to cater to each of these deity systems

So for instance for the kids the Nickolodeon theme park has all this slime and mutants, radiated talking sponges and underwater squirrels and ninja turtles and they all have giant googly eyes. That is their Pantheon.

I am debating whether to stop at Wetzels Pretzels for a snack, or Cinnabon. Both are so quintessential mall food. And you can smell the buttersugar smell of both from a block away.

This is the shimmering dematerialization. The air element. Strings of twinkle lights from perfect smooth airbrushed white hanger ceiling
