I'm glad you didn't go because unbelievably there was a fire on Andre Street the night before and (due to dangerous chemicals in the buildings next door) the police roped off the whole street for 24 hours leaving us without a venue. We spent Saturday desperately trying to find somewhere at short notice and in the end managed to get the George on Commercial Road although it was only open until one instead of all night. We squashed in all the performers to the shorter time and got the message out to everyone that we could but because we couldn't charge on the door and I had to pay for the new venue I ended up losing £600. I think that everyone who made it to the George and the acts had a good time but it was an absolute disaster for us.
Hopefully when we've got over the disappointment we will do it again sooner rather than later, we'll try and do something for free because I'm guessing that people turned up and went home and will hate us. Shame because we did it before very successfully in Bardens Bar on Kingsland Road (who have since lost their licence) about a year ago with a totally different line up (except for Louise and I) including the guy from Souljazz who composed the New York Noise things, and I felt as though things were going well.
Next time we will try and have a mostly different line-up again (although Barry 7 is keen to be involved again), the idea is to keep it varied with a party spirit and after that we'll put it on frequently but irregularly. Thanks a lot for your interest anyway and we'll definitely let everyone know as soon as we get something off the ground again and sorry to anyone who turned up.
