But the point of it is that this woman is deeply unhappy and small minded and (almost incidentally) racist! It's not propaganda for racist ideas. Do you have to warn people that some characters in a film hold nasty views now, even if those characters are clearly supposed to be villainous?

I think it's important to give TV audiences some credit for intelligence and morality, even if that's not necessarily justified for every single viewer. And in many cases you can pretty clearly see what the creators of the show are trying to do and where they're coming from, assuming you're not hell-bent on misinterpreting it.
