popped into uptown records yesterday and i can see why logan might be on the defensive.

literally the whole wall downstairs is dedicated to bassline. grime is in that slot on the left handside where two-step used to be. quite a shocker actually.

lol that's because no-one is bloody releasing anything! I think I am the only record label still in existence.

I think it's really important to give people a product they can get excited about though.. and sales go hand in hand with that. That's why dubstep sells - through dubplate culture, vinyl and the tunes themselves are massively romanticised, so records are in demand.

Who gets excited over a 20 track mixtape with 3 good tunes and crap artwork? Of course everyone's going to download when the majority of releases comprise sloppily compiled filler CDs.. who would be proud of a collection that's 80% filler?

People download in dubstep too but records sell because they've got the hype right..

you co-run a dubstep rec label..are your sales down to your hype then ?

in that dubsteps sales as a whole genre, and pretty much any leisure product in the whole world depends on hype for its sales, yeah sure. that hype has to be grounded in something though innit :)

UKrecordshop.com has a near total monopoly on grime CDs and most grime artists aren't bothering with vinyl, because the only people that buy them are grime DJs, most of whom are vastly outnumbered by the MCs.

I'd not be surprised if most of the london garage/grime vinyl shops switch to northern bassline and london funky...

How much does it cost to press a few vinyl anyway, ballpark figures?

You could take a CDr burnt straight off your computer and get 1000 white label 12"s in paper sleeves for under £1000.

But 1000 copies of decent quality vinyl with sleeves, label artwork, mastering, mechanical fees and a modest promotional push obviously costs more (£2000 and up as an estimate, but there are always ways to cut corners, of course).

What the fuck is that tune that drops for about 2 seconds at 8:30 all about!?!?

Sounds sick

The track at 6:51 is doing it for me. Sounds like a remix of Soul II Soul - What's Going On for 2007.

It's not but it sounds like Coki.

What's the original of the tune at 9:25-9:35?

it's mariah or summat, but it's been stuck in my head for months since i heard a kareoki act very inadvisably try it... dont try if you dont have Mariah's registers.

Yes it's a remix of Mariah Carey - My All

i am only amused by all this buzz to the degree that;
i see a good possibility for the outcome of the *scene(s) (*substitute term to avoid the wrath of zomby). I am hoping that over the next time-span that the masses will see it all as simply: 'the next/last big thing' ..
the boost that is/was needed has already been granted us..

it's always better to take another dip. before you 'officially' peak, imo. that's when the countdown till the end begins..
even shite material can be re-lived as retro, or classic or whatever. so no worries there..

and this thread has gotten a bit out of hand, as well..

ps. zomby, relax mang. your references are not entirely accurate.
and we weren't doing so awful before your thrusting down onto us.

That was the first ever bassline event held in London. So make of that what you will.

Certain tunes are big within a Garage context.
