stuart borthwick is here as dj_red. he's travelled to SA but I'm not sure how up to date he is on the scene.
He's done a few kwaito mix CDs and has done a number of kwaito (and other genre) DJ sets in Africa in the recent past...

they'll let you pay with a credit card. i think they just charge you in rand. you have to email them:

completely incidental, am just listening to Cooly G's remix of Kesha's Tik Tok and the beat is more than a little related to this...

is capetown a good city for this stuff? might be going soon

I was there earlier in the year and got hooked up with a DJ who said he'd get us some, but it ended up with him saying "come back tomorrow" 2 days in a row and I had to leave by the second day unfortunately. I think it's easier to find mixes, rather than individual tracks.

Went to Johannesburg and bought some CDs in a market in a last minute rush, but they were more trad. House. This was the pick - big tune from last year:

There's quite a few record/CD shops- start off at CD Warehouse on the Waterfront and then ask the assistants there as well as picking up leaflets about gigs and whatever. There's a chain shop upstairs in the mall there as well. Always worth looking through any shop as often the stock is years old and you can find some real gems, much to the staff's amusement usually. It's mainly CDs, lots of mixes like hint says.

There's (or was, 2 years back) a dance music specialist on Green Market Square, downstairs in a shop, lots of Dennis Ferrer and that sort of stuff. I can't find it online and cant remember what it was called tho, sorry.

Um check out Woodstock and Observatory as areas that are really good - there was a great second hand shop in one of them but cant remember which now. Ask people who you see - it's pretty obvious who to speak to, hip kids stand out a mile - cos it's quite hard to find out stuff; there isn't any major kind of Time Out or anything.

Feel free to PVT if you got any questions.

so i'm off to capetown tomorrow for a month, what are the chances/risks of me finding a party that resembles something like this?:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=""></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

apparently the temps are in the 35-38 region :D
