is there any way for this thread to be converted to a multi-purpose house thread? would people support that? its not a big deal but i feel like its a shame to have it like it is

on which note i'm guesting on the Ruffage show tonight with Ben UFO 8-10, house of all kinds, it should be enjoyable

I tried to do that with a thread on the funky subforum on DSF. I would have thought there's quite a few Americans on there eager to point out that Roska didn't invent house music a thousand times, but no dice.

If you're going to get into DJing house is it basically essential to get CDJs/serato?

It'd be beneficial. From what I can tell, no one in funky plays dubplates. Not many genres these days do just because it's a lot of extra time and money for essentially producing the same effect.

Now I'm paying less attention to it, I'm starting to realize what a freak and atypical occurence it was for dubstep to be so centred around the dubplate. Very peculiar, esp. because so many DJs were spending money on pressing plates just as fast as they were making it.

It's pretty pointless speculating about the credit crunch effect I suppose but I dunno if people are going to be so willing to spend 7 quid per tune over the next few years. I love vinyl but its getting pretty costly... although you do actually own the tunes I suppose, there is a sense of ownership that you don't get with mp3s.

But like you say, it seems that house/funky/techno etc. are very mp3 orientated. Building up a collection of vinyl is going to cost a fucking bomb too...

Beast of Burden
I've said it before, Marcus Nasty's sets now seem to be full of boring records.Still a few gems but lots of skipping required. I'd rather listen to Circle or Perempay, deep latin gear, "proper" house music but played (sometimes made) in Bow and Hackney. I still prefer proper funky but there's not enough banging stuff.

I think we might need a darkside funky.Which is a shame.

Cos streams are as good as / sometimes better than club funky. I'm doing a compilation of rips (not a mix of rips) to show what sort of funky I really like and act as a sampler for the uninitiated.

And I'm moving away from vinyl, I just want to do Ableton stuff now. I just can't afford it.

I think I'm gonna hit up this Wifey thing tomorrow night, are many dissensus folk going? I seem to recall some enthusiasm earlier. It's not shirts and shoes is it? I can't deal with that.

I'm going for sure...but it can't really be shirts and shoes can it? Never been to this venue, y'see...

Nah, it might actually not be.

Never been to anything with a shoes dress code in London, and it's in a video store anyways.

I guess the seeds have already been sown - hindsight may see Lil Silva as the day-dotter, so to speak and some (not all) of Cooly G's stuff is a bit claustrophibic and vaguely paranoid-sounding to me..
It may be interesting to hear what those grime youngers who have only recently started to produce funky come up with - though hopefully not the same hatchet job the D&B 'headz' are doing on dubstep.
