Corpsey

bandz ahoy
TV Burp is shite nowadays, or has been on the few occasions I've watched it recently. I think he's coasting now, a shame because I used to love it.

BBC Three is awful. Who are these people getting terrible sitcoms comissioned on BBC Three? Is it an employment scheme for the 'creative' sons and daughters of BBC management? Mind you, most TV comedy is bilge (Channel 4).

I'm finding more and more that comedians are pissing me off - you know, the ones that appear on adverts for car insurance/banks and are generally as funny as a burning orphanage. There are some great comedians around but the vast majority just strike me as TWATS who are intent on making a lucrative career out of imposing their shitty sense of humour upon us all. See: anybody on ANY panel show.

Another thing that pisses me off which I won't go into at length is opinion/lifestyle columns in newspapers featuring smug/pensive photos of the journo above the tedious, unfunny, self-regarding, middle-class-smug column about a family trip to the cotswolds or something.

that prick especially, and the other OVERLY IN YOUR FACE guy, what a cunt.

when o when are they going to drop everyone else from the TV news thing on channel 4 and just let charlie brooker rant for an hour. I'd love that.

Yes corpsey, yes, YES. I always think that. That stuff is the fucking pits.
TV Burp has dropped off a bit you're right, i don't bother watching it all the time. Still has its moments though.
And yeah comedians in adverts - i should've put this in that crap adverts thread - i fucking loathe that Barclays one with Stephen Merchant narrating and being all arch and smug and irreverant and post-modern. Comedians in general are total dicks really aren't they, with only a few exceptions. I mean who would be a stand up comic, really? What a bizarre profession. It's probably the most attention-seeking, self-satisfied thing you could ever do.

oh yeah another one - i really should stop but i can't, the floodgates have opened - i watched that Peaches Geldof programme the other day (you have to check it out, don't you) and was shocked to find that Peaches was actually the person on it who I found least offensive and infuriating. The whole format of it is so weird though. It's like a regular chatshow with sofas for the guests etc, but then they've got a bunch of people ("comedians"?) kind of sitting on stools or benches set right back from the main sofa area, and i think their job is just to randomly opine on the guest or current topic whenever they want, and so you get these bizarre conversations between Peaches/the guests and the people on the stools where they're almost shouting at each other from either end of the set, it's just plain fucking weird. But all of Peaches' "team" come across like such a bunch of try-hard sanctimonious pricks, it's unbearable. And there's this one utter prick in the bunch of opinionators who is just desperate to be like a cross between Russell Brand and Noel Fielding, he spends the whole time sort of climbing all around on his chair being annoyingly loud like an attention-seeking child, and he's all pointlessly flamboyant and arrogantly 'wacky'. I'd never seen him before, but he fucking went on my list after that, i can tell you.

Miranda is tripe, I've yet to witness a joke, or anything other than limp wrists and 'wacky' facial expressions. Oh silly lady! That'll fill 2 series.....

2012 - mockumentary comedy on BBC 3 or 4 is fantastic! Works along similar strata as The Thick of It.

My mum watches this. She thinks it's nice. Oh mum, what happened? When my parents were my age (and younger!) they had Monty Python. Not that Python is the be-all and end-all of great comedy but it was a bit more adventurous than sodding Miranda.

She (my mum, not Miranda) also used to like 2 Pints... but stopped watching it because it's "too rude". I was like, dammit mum, you're not watching it for the wrong reason!

Sigh.

The level of love for Harry Hill in this thread is cheering immensely, though.

Darned cockwombles.
He's brilliant. Sometimes light entertainment is miles funnier (and cleverer) than edgier stuff. He's got a really good set of scriptwriters, too.

would never disagree with that, just don't find HH that funny. nice enough guy, i'm sure though.

Does anyone on here like Amstell? I think he's pretty consistently funny,t ho never saw the sitcom he did.

I dunno, obviously Carr is gay but a lot of his 'humour' seems to revolve around "I'm GAY, fancy that, haha!" - kind of like Julian Clary but without whatever wit Clary has - and it just seems really reactionary, if that makes sense. I just hate his demeanor and his stupid gerbil face.

Harry Hill, on the other hand, is a god among men. :)

Yeah I know what you mean, I just don't think he could do anything else. I'm surprised he's popular, there will always be a place for the 'nice gay' I guess.

Clary was always the best of that bunch - the joke was that they let him into light entertainment at all, and he consistently played on that, much like Frankie Boyle. On a Just A Minute a while back with Clary, Norton, Fry and someone else - might have been Wogan actually, but it was a real Celebrity Comedy Brain edition, Clary wiped the floor with the lot of them. Terrifyingly funny. He was always too edgy though. Clary never pretended to be nice, that was the great angle. He was gay but people didn't warm to him, and I've always admired that about him. You're allowed (and depictions are allowed) to be nice and safe and wave limp wrist and be women's BFFFFF and Gok Wan and Clary wasn't. Never worked much again after that Norman Prescott or David Mellor joke or whoever it was, felt like a blacklist went on. Maybe he just got bored.

TV Burps surprised me when I saw it. Only saw it once though.

BareBones - was just about to demand an example from the joke book and you did it without me asking, nice one. Not sure it was that funny though mind.

Is his mic lead just photoshopped in?

The way the Guardian is sometimes 'feminist' to the point of out-and-out misandry.

The cover feature for last weekend's magazine is titled 'Holding the baby...and everything else', subtitled 'Why having children spells the end of equality', illustrated with the image of a put-upon-looking woman holding a baby in one arm and a mini-husband in the other. Because men are just big stupid useless babies who are helpless without a woman to look after them all the time, amirite girls????

Fuck off.

The Guardian

That too. But what's the alternative? Sometimes I feel guilty for never reading a newspaper, like it totally undermines my idea of myself as an "intelligent person", but they're all just so crap. I used to buy the Indy occasionally but stopped when it turned into "the antimatter Daily Mail", as I heard someone put it once.

I read the Standard when I find a copy on the tube. There's often some surprisingly good writing in it these days.

brooker sums them up brilliantly here

edit* not the standard, just the papers, that speech made me like, 'YEA, YEA, FUCKING YEA...CUNTS!!'
