Marvin Gaye said:In 1969 or 1970, I began to re-evaluate my whole concept of what I wanted my music to say ... I was very much affected by letters my brother was sending me from Vietnam, as well as the social situation here at home. I realized that I had to put my own fantasies behind me if I wanted to write songs that would reach the souls of people. I wanted them to take a look at what was happening in the world.[14]
Is this a quote from mojo magazine?Inner city blues is great, sumptuous, a whole world
I really love it. It's a like an extended prayer innit. Hypnotic devotional music that swirls around itself for an hour.
That's a perfect description of let's get it on too as it happens.I bought the CD as a teenager after seeing it in a list like this and didn't really get it. I loved the title track, but felt every other track sounded like a worse version of it. I'll have to give it another listen at some point.
WhyI love it. And I like most of Marvin’s seventies gear.
