After Craner's praise this morning I've decided I'm the Muad'Dib of the literary world.

I would recommend everyone be very polite to me and help me on my path as much as possible. Or else I will come back in the future and subject you to an eternity of punishment. I can uphold your legacy include you in my footnotes say fond things at your funeral. Or I will desecrate your grave your name and reputation.

I rote a fing about Dune a couple of years back. (Yes, I know, it's craner-level - even luka-level! - spamming.)

These Bin Laden / Saudi Arabia / Frazer connections are super useful thank you. Anything you'd point me to to learn more?

Thanks, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Probably everything I know about it is in the essay already, but I'll come back to this thread if I think if anything else.

I was surprised to see Christopher Walken pop up in Dune - clearly I'd not been paying attention - immediately that Fat Boy Slim song with the Dune referencing lyrics and him in the video came to mind, was this some kind of deliberate choice from Villeneuve? Has this been discussed already?

I've had to eat my words a bit on this one, just saw it at the cinema and it was fantastic.

I appreciated how silly and cheesy it was.

Obviously a fair chunk of ham in this sand-wich (lol). Rolled my eyes as few dozen times. Hack Zimmer soundtrack. But I even liked that cheesy bollocks element to it.

I think it will lose a "star" at home it really is made to be gargantuan.

Also Dave Bautista was rubbish. And the bald baddie sounded like Papa Lazarou.

Also I was of course stoned out of my head, which helped.

Honestly I didn't think I'd like it so much, maybe that's why I liked it so much.

I sort of see the logic of it all looking washed out and dull, it somewhat grounds this ludicrous story in reality.

It was so funny at the end when Javier bardem and all the other religious zealots are waiting for him to speak and then closing their eyes or boggling them and screaming whatever his name was again.

I've not read the books so I don't know if the prophecy is coming true or if it's propaganda and manipulation, that was the most interesting aspect of the story for me.

agreed. the trailer for the planet of the apes movie in particular made me happy, just the fact that a move franchise exclusively starring a bunch of cgi apes is popular enough to get a ton of sequels
I wonder if there is a turn away from the Marvel style of blockbuster happening

All these quite serious, gritty 'epic' movies (one of which stars Chris Hemsworth, whose prosthetic nose looks ridiculous and might be rubbish in the film)

There was a trailer for 'Borderlands' which looked shit and also that Gosling stunt man film which also looked shit.

I'm starting to really hate Gosling. I feel like he's being aggressively marketed as 'the guy EVERYONE LOVES' now. And I did like him before.
