Swears: You are OTM about the live pop/R&B thing. The drums always have the most boringly flat sound, too.

nonsense like chevron and shitmat. i get it, you are on drugs and play retarded distorted amen breaks that you can't dance to unless your on copious amounts of vile drugs. whats worse is that they are now turning their hand to dubstep. please leave it alone. we don't need the "ironic" version from some drugged up morons. just fuck off.

i feel quite strongly about that. especially having to stomach shitmat when skream played in brighton.... made me want to run back home to london...

polar bear. jazz rock. never heard that before.

squarepusher. im sorry but photek had far better breaks in his day and did not have to restort to hard drive crashing GRrrrEEHHHHFFFUTATATATATA noises.

some aphex twin stuff like digiridoo. that track in partic is so horrid. a rubbish distorted break with some stoner hippy nonsense on top. hell to my ears. windowlicker is great tho! [sorry to all the afx hardcore fans if that is the commercial one everyone knows...but thats for a reason i dare say]

venetian snares. "its so intricate maaaan" says the pothead opposite me. yeah sure. how the fuck can any beat be intricate if it has no rhytmic purpose? i just don't understand... if it was played live fair enough , but behind a sequencer one could just press any old shit. oh and dont forget the glitch noises!!

its not "idm" i hate, don't get so worked up about the old detroity/electro stuff, heck i really love the old warp stuff (lfo-lfo , dj mink etc) , just the stupid smug 300bpm garbage. its like dungeons and dragons drum n bass to me.

mr scruff. dj yoda. all the usual student crap that you get at uni.

its quite funny, its only now that i am a student that i can see why people hate students.

ha! you think YOUR student crap is bad in the UK??? Try going to school in the US!!! (nomadologist has already been complaining enough recently about such things...). The amount of JACK FUCKING JOHNSON you hear is just astounding. In fact, he was (maybe still is) the #1 artist on the facebook. Number one!!!

Have Lemon Jelly come up here? I fucking despise them. I suppose it falls under 'usual student bollocks', really.

I have to get my two cents in here, especially because I was inspired by being subjected recently to a Foo Fighters 'acoustic tour' dvd AND the Spin Doctors, IN THE SAME WEEK.
I swear to GOD, it put me on the edge...The brink...
A lot of ground has already been covered in this thread and I laughed out loud at the person who mentioned this wasnt a proper 'hater' thread without Joni Mitchell. Awesome.
In the spirit of this thread, I offer a vintage themed 'bottom 5 songs of all time'

5. 'Mickey' Toni Basil
4. 'The Way it is' Bruce Hornsby
3. 'Heart of Rock n' Roll' Huey Lewis and the News
2.'Whats Up' 4 Non Blondes
1. 'American Pie' Don Mclean

Special mention to house with piano breaks and well, most 4/4 club music, Reaggaeton, 'Lounge', 'adult contemporary', smmmmmooooth jazz, fusion and modern country...

yeah i pretty much hate breakcore i think

in theory i have always liked it but in reality i can't handle it for longer than a minute or two before wanting to hear something else

a friend of mine played a breakcore set at my dnb weekly after promising not to and it cleared the floor and pissed me off

fuck breakcore

The problem with "breakcore" or IDM or whatever is that it's followed the path of all that horrible midrange-heavy No U Turn shit, way too male. Woebot had a point with the Burial album when he said "the promise of '94 era Jungle fulfilled once more" people need to get back to the sexy, slinky grooves that sort of petered out after 2step, Johnny Dark's got the right idea...

yeah municiple recently did a tune that is breakcoreish and has a great vibe.

youre right about the overly aggressiveness. its way too fast and way too confrontational. we're not 16 trying to piss off mom n dad anymore.

i'm not anyway

this was inspired by the "what would be the worst music to hear over and over in your head" post.

things that on a good day I cannot fucking stand, and on a bad day makes me want to randomly stab people:

Meat Beat Manifesto / Jack Dangers / Tino Corp - souless, vapid, all special effects no substance pseudo-dub monkey shit.

Unkle - sounds like 4 kinds of rotten fruits blended together with fresh puke.

Roni Size, LTJ Bukem, early Spring Heel Jack - pussy ass boring ambient drum'n'bass good for retarded fat chicks on E. this is weird because recent Spring Heel Jack is very very good... I'm ofcourse refering to the free jazz records. also nothing against the MetalHeads.

Cold Cut (and a lot of shite on Ninja Tune) - Lazy quirky 50s samples + bullshit beatloops = big bowl of cat piss.

anything on Astral Werks after 1995 - just plain aweful... thinking about it makes me dry heave.

I second the Thievery Corporation and Death in Vegas... I would gas these people and their fans in an oven without blinking.

ok your turn. but let's leave out the obvious like Paul Oakenfold or Ibiza compilations... and also all the piles of garbage from other genres like that shit for brains Elliot Smith for now... and keep it within electronic / dance music. or not. whatever.

I've just realised, you mean all the sonic signifiers people will associate with "the 90s" in ten years time...

I completely agree with what you say about tech step and breakcore's maleness -- many people share your view -- but I don't consider Johnny Dark to be all that. I mean, I bought it, I played it out, it's okay, but one of the year's best, I didn't get that.

there are no accidents
despite my dislike of Mr. Scruff, have always have been puzzled by that one tune with the sax line which I've always had a special spot for, you know the one with the voice that repeats something like "you better get with the times... or you'll be left behind". that gorgeous saxophone line... so simple, so right. how did a shit producer come up with something so nice?

have just heard the original Moondog track from which the sax line is lifted, and basically this entire song is constructed -- my confusion explained, and hatred re-doubled. have these people no shame what so ever?

breakcore gigs are fairly mixed though , and also i think you're doing the music a bit of a disservice, it's slightly more varied than you give it credit for, so what if it's just dark so are other genres.

i like snares, you have to process it when you're hit by it, its not really dance music it's like musical information pushed into your head, it's extreme, ans demanding but i don't think it's willfully intricate, its just built in odd times etc, he's good.

WTF???? euphoric piano house may possibly be the greatest genre of music ever, there is simply no arguing against this. it's a fundamental law of the universe or something...i mean really, do you hate fun?? :D

thats it precisely, i hate how i leave my body and see the dancefloor below me.. how my body gets covered in goosebumps and my throat almost closes because of the intense emotions... its too pure and im not worthy..:(

mercury rev. used to like them when i was a teenager, but now just thinking of them makes me feel dirty and used, like i've been touched up by a sleazy old man.
