Well, to an extent it is. But Gary Glitter will no doubt get less coverage when he dies because he has done less of artisitc merit and has had less impact on culture, not because he couldn't afford such good lawyers. On Glitter - the daughter of a colleague of my father once worked backstage...

No, but then what has he contributed to music and popular culture?

    Music from passing carz

I never hear music from cars in this country (Portugal). Bloody weirdos. Though a few twats played music from their mobiles (ghettblaster-style) on Lisbon's metro when i lived there.

Any opinions on Sony's range? I'm trying to decide between a Sony and a Sandisk. Cheers

    Wales

I've only seen a few G & S but that doesn't ring true for me. I went to school there and hated the place. It's full of too many arseholes with something to prove. It's the only place I've encountered "what you lookin' at?" aggressive idiocy. One Begbie-type once informed me his name was Gary...

What's Wales without the rain?! Don't leave out the all important Dylan Thomas pilramage to Laugharne. I went to Portmeirion as a kid but had no knowledge of The Prisoner back then. This was on a holiday to Butlins where I had the pleasure of enjoying Brian Connelly pre-fame and Roger De Courcey.

I loves it, I do. Holidayed in Pembrokeshire since I was 7. No package holidays for me and didn't miss a thing. A trip further south to St.Davids and Solva are worth it. Can I also recommend the novels of Niall Griffiths. He paints the landscape beautifully and has a real knack for putting...

    Cats or Dogs?

Cats because... ...they don't try to hump your leg, they take themselves for a walk, they don't rip toddlers limb from limb, they hunt vermin, they don't keep you up all night meowing and they have nine lives.

I've got a lot of time for Brooker. A smart bloke whose humanity shines through in his ranting at the right targets. His viewers likely share his sentiments but he still manages to avoid just feeding our opinions back to us, giving us something else to think about or another angle. Just watched...

    Non-Music Podcasts

Living abroad, and not being able to speak Portuguese very well, I've recently started listening to podcats in the car. Sometimes I just need something a bit more engaging for the brain on the drive to work. So far it's Dr Karl & the Naked Scientist and Mark Kermode's film reviews. I've...

    Watchmen

Saw this last night and it was the most boring three I'd spent in a long time. It lacked any narrative drive and just hopped from one scene to the next. The sex scene was laughable, as was the blue dick. It has even put me off checking the book out.

    Genre Overload

As a regular read of the Wire I could spout loads about Noise, but apart from skipping through a Merzbow sampler a freind sent me, I've heard almost nothing. Maybe I should stop reading from cover to cover.

    jazz - any help appreciated

On a Brit tip... ...I picked up Tubby Hayes' excellent 'Down In The Village' at a record fair this week and can't stop playing it. Can highly recommend Stan Tracey's 'Under Milk Wood' too. To borrow Empty Mirror's phrase, 'Starless and Bible Black' is sonic morphine.

what music do you 'return' to?

It's getting slated elsewhere on this MB but Miles' Kind of Blue never disappoints when I dust off my copy. Lately I've been investigating early 90s hardcore after reading Energy Flash. I HATED that car-alarm shit when it was came out. I was a metalhead through and through back then. It's...
