    house and techno are bad

z3ta is old and it would run on a fairly slow computer. it takes .scl files, which are from Scala (which is free and you can download 1000s of tuning files from their website) or make your own with it. Its good fun.

    house and techno are bad

loads of softsynths like U-he zebra, camel alchemy, z3ta etc take .tun files or Scala files or whatever. if you're triggering hardsynths with midi, its so easy to use alternative tunings. people do use them all the time, matthew johnson's uses alt tunings really obviously. any time signature...

Anthony "Shake" Shakir - "All we did was put a black face on it"

Hi Zhao, yeah the thread was locked when i went to reply and i didnt think it warranted starting a new thread. i only saw your pm now and i'll go into it later, a little busy at the moment and have to mail someone to ask if i can use their name. (they aren't a big deal or anything or someone...

    Tory bastards

i re-read the first 2 paragraphs a few times and I'm still not really sure i understand it. Its impenetrable. Some of those pictures are great. I like the "i'll kill again" one the best.

vinyl purists: you are boring. please stop.

I also feel stupid for getting dragged into this but a few things.... @zhao The UR crew and Mike Banks especially are racists with an axe to grind. If you want me to go into that further i will. The whole thing of techno being birthed from the "pissed on" etc, is way too over simplified. Its a...

vinyl purists: you are boring. please stop.

Ok, i think i understand your point now. Yeah, the idea that is was almost "solely inspired by" european synth music would be wrong, but i'm sure nobody could have said that. Artist by artist, or track by track there is probably different levels of influence from synth pop and funk. But, then...

    London pubs

I lived there for ages and i never found one. Only option would be going to a club i think at that time. As for around there my i only used to drink in the Calthorphe Arms on Grays Inn. Its great, real smal, nice staff and crowd, always get a seat no matter what, open christmas day etc. Good...

vinyl purists: you are boring. please stop.

Re: detroit influences up thread. But detroit techno was heavily influenced by european synth music, among other things. Moodyman less so because he makes house music, which is more heavily influenced by funk and disco. The lines have gotten more blurrey over the years but they were distinct...

    Funky/London/UK House

I wound up living in Stratford for a week last year (long story) and went to a funky night in Yates. Stayed for about an hour cause there was something else on that i wanted to go to but it was the kind of Crazy Cousins (sp?) end of Funky and the crowd was really young, but yeah, good party...

vinyl purists: you are boring. please stop.

Jesus, are you being deliberately obtuse? They are both a document capturing something, a performance or a person. Mixes live in a bit of a grey area, only a complete fool couldn't acknowledge that. They are a document of a performance that until a decade or so ago weren't really doctored to...

Zhao, i do get where coming from with this but no one actually accused anyone of being dishonest. You could read it as that, but its not necessarily what was said. Sometimes our sensitivites towards things can get in the way a little. I haven't heard Martyn dj, i know a few of his productions...

Oh, i get you. Well, this being an issue with the language he used, if he said "completely honest" then he would have had to record a club live set. But he said "more honest" so that would be anything more live/rough than a clinical, video editing approach to the mix. I don't think that anyone...

Zhao, i think thats a bit of a limited way to look at this. How someone wants to get across their mixes (their art, whatever) is entirely up to them. If its important to them to have something thats a bit more rough or has a less perfect feel to it, then thats ok, it wasn't an underhand attack...

    Best television drama ever

guardian list was strange alright. i haven't seen it but deadwood is meant to be really good but i didn't make the top 50. anyone else think its worth getting? i'm watching mad men at the moment (near the end of season 2) and i really like it. Its quite slow and fairly subtle for a tv show...

    House 09!

yes! it keeps on annoyingly coming up on 2009 lists even though it was well out by then. Its in loads of peoples end of 2008 reviews aswell and was a big deal last year. I remember because i listened to it a lot when i was doing up my house at the time and that was ages ago.
